Right looking to move the Octy II up to 312mm discs, which I have now decided will be the Brembo OEM equivalent parts.

My next question is which of the following 3 (and only these three) pads would you use:

- OEM Equivalent from GSF (Pagid/Textar)

- OEM from dealer (If these why compared to the above)

- EBC redstuff Ceramic V3.

The car will be used for fast road with the occasional spirited jaunt down autobahns etc.

If you have not tried a certain compound, then please don't knock it. I know EBC greenstuff are not great, but I've heard very good things about the red.

Mintex extreme are out as I am told by a supplier they are discontinuing these due to disc wear issues.

Please put a reason for your choice below.

Well on that note I called my ins co to check about brakes and it would be something I have to notify them of if they are non OEM, even if E marked :confused:

I know you are only considering the above Mark but I was wondering why? :confused:

I've been looking to replace pads on mine but have found it difficult to find perfomance aftermarket ones specifically for the vRS (which I'm assuming is what you are fitting) but the only ones I could find were from OMP on ebay!

The EBC redstuff part numbers for the MK V golf GTI front brakes are DP31517C I'm told that should fit the front of a VRS.

I've been told from a few places that the 312 and 288 use the same pads too as the callipers are the same.

For the rear of a golf V GTI i'm told it is DP31518C, but I can't confirm if they are the same as an Octy.

The reds come in at about £65 delivered from Larkspeed.

The OMP look interesting, but at the same price as the reds, and an average friction co of 0.4 vs 0.5 I think unless anyone has some great ideas I might give them a shot.

The aformentioned source above (Chris) hasn't managed to destroy them yet on his Mondeo. :rofl:

Why have you discounted other pads Mark?? Ferrodo do some nice performance pads.

If not, just get some OEM ones from GSF. :)

Ferodo DS2500 are so expensive I couldn't afford it and I've heard from people that have used both that for fast road/occasional track that the redstuff are pretty much on par.

Also IIRC the DS2500 have limited bite from cold and most of my miles are M/Way so lots of cold brake stops.

Ferodo DS2000 "performance" are from experience, erm nasty. They dusted a fair amount and also left a nasty deposit of what I can only think was the bonding agent, on a set of discs. That plus I don't think they are any better than OEM ones.

I think it's pretty much a redstuff or GSF competition now to be honest.

FWIW, I've just found out that the part number is the same for Pug 307 CC 2.0 (180bhp) also. :rofl:

If it aint broke, dont fix it!

For your useage the Pagid/Textar will be more than good enough IMO.

I should perhaps have stated M/way and autobahns at full speed, the latter being the reason I got interested in this. As for the if it ain't broke... I think it is, hence changing the discs upwards.

Anyway I'll sit down and work out the price difference and make a decision this evening i think.

Steve if you are interested in a set of the reds let me know and I can pop a second set on the order to save on the delivery if you like. Either that or I'll give them a go first and see how they go. :rofl:

I do know that although the front pads are the same as the MkV Golf the rears are totally different and in fact unique to the Octy so go careful when selecting.

For the time being I'm Ok for pads as the OEM ones are holding up well but will want/need to change them when some of these track/driver days start :)

Yellowstuff are supposed to be better for proper track use but the reds should be ok for fast road/light track.

I've no idea about the rears pads but they looked quite similar in terms of the carrier parts. Vented rears IIRC but I can't remember if that was the same as the R32 rears, the GTI anniversary or something totally different.

I'll be keeping stock rears for now I think but guess if i do go for the pads I'll be a guinea pig on two counts.

Wouldn't bother with the rears, tbh. Do little in the way of braking with the standard bias setup and I'm not sure that performance pads are ideal for holding the car on the handbrake....

Got myself some red stuff ceramics coming for the front at about £66 delivered.

Just got to try get either a very good price on the Genuine VW discs or get some of the GSF brembo discs this weekend.

Right well as an update I got EBC redstuff Cermaic V3's coupled with OEM discs.

Having bedded them in all I can say is wow.

I sent the bottle of water flying out of the cup holder when i gave a fairly hard but not full out brake earlier.

Performance is looking good so far, although they are still quite new so I'll reserve judgement. What I will state though is that they don't seem to degrade anywhere near as much in the wet as OEM pads did.

Is that with the bigger discs, or oem 312mm discs?

OEM 312mm discs, which is an increase from the 288mm that are standard on the car.

I'll probably write a review up after about 500-1000 miles of them being on, which should be the weekend or early next week.
