Icy

Featured Replies

Not just outside last night, but the inside of my rear windaes last night too!

I had no end of problems last year with the car misting up, so much so that I had ice on the insides of the front and rear screens!

Turned out to be water ingress from 3 places - rear light cluster, rear wiper washer perished and a missing rubber washer from a bumper fitting bolt.

After getting them sorted the misting was vastly improved - still occurred a bit but this seems to be an Octy (and Favia, maybe even VAG in general) issue - certainly seen a V6 Golf sitting outside the work one day exhibiting the problems.

Anyhoo all was well until last night when Penicuik went arctic again - noticed around 4pm the rear screen had iced up inside - took the car for a spin to clear it all, took a wee while and when I got home, 30 mins later it had started again!!

All became clearer on the way home tonight - went to wash my rear window with the scoosher and nothing came out!!

As we know, Octys have a common problem of popping the connections off the wee pipes - either below the wiper motor, or behind the CD changer - first place was dry, checked last year's places and they were dry which left...behind the CD changer a frickin puddle of screenwash.

Took me ages to remove the CD changer, now I know the easy way to remove it, it won't take nearly as long next time so currently letting the carpet dry out before refitting everything.

Pipe connection now cable tied and taped up.

Not the night I had planned but one more wee niggly problem fixed.

If you want to post up the easy way to remove it id be greatful for it as mine has popped off before

well I reached down behind the trim to remove the 2 bumper bolts holding the big bracket onto the side of the car...there is also another plastic bolt holding the bottom of it down - not easy to get to them.

Once I had done all this, I realised the CD changer (and carpeted surround) is held together by 4 torx screws (either size 20 or 25 methinx).

You only have to loosen these off and the whole changer/surround bit will lift off the big bracket, then just pull the cable thru a wee bit to unclip the connector and there you have it.

Obviously refitting is reversal of removal.

So - the 45 mins to 1 hour I spent removing the big bracket was not required.

I did search on here for a guide but couldn't find one.

i got mine off and upon attempting to re fit took bloody ages!!!

tis irratating how much moisture the car seems to let in though and my rear windscreen heater had given up the ghost atm. bloody thing.

Mine sits in the garage on a shelf :-)

thats why i want to know the quick way to do it so mine can be in the same place :D

Hmm...my rear skoosher doesnt work either, even though Jabba replaced the pipe at it's last big service, wonder if it's popped off again.

Could either be there Johnny, or behind the tailgate plastic trim as the pipe to the motor popped off on mine before.

I'm loathed to take the trim off, as it's hanging on by about 2 clips !!!

you can buy the clips from yer local neighbourhood skoda rip off merchant - or try a scrappies!

Better of at the stealers..

Clips like that tend to go walkies at a scrappies !

Cheers Steven. :)
