Does your car drive better at times ?

Featured Replies

I'm not saying it doesn't make a difference; I'm just not sure the 'thermal ballast' provided by the increased humidity is the reason...

But if it was placed on a conveyor belt, would it take off? :rubchin:

If a car drives better on a cold, damp day, but no-one's around, does it make any sound...? :P

Surely "better" requires a person's judgement? :P

I posted a similar question the other week.

I think my car has got depression.

That's the only reason I can think why the performance varies so much.

Unless it's a female car, with associated female mood changes...........

OK, If KITT drives better on a cold, damp day, but Michael's around, does it still sound really camp...?

Only if "camp" is a synonym for "posh, upper-class and English"!! ;)

No, cold and damp, because the water has a much higher specific heat capacity than dry air does, so the charge arrives in the engine cooler. It's not just me; people like David Vizard and Gerard Sauer have observed and reported this too.

Yep have to agree, ive noticed this too.

Also - WWII aero engines used to have water injection as a form of boost. Particularly Yank engines.

The crazy Germans pumped Methanol/Water mixes or Nitrous (what kind of madman pumpes Nitrous into an engine??? ;))

yes, agree - cold, slightly wet tonight and my octavia 105 tdi just flowed from corner to corner - hasn't felt like that in the 4 days i've owned her. i used to have a mk1 avensis tdi90 and she was sublime on days like this - not great acceleration, but i could get her going hysterically fast around most corners and still live to tell about it :)

anyhoo - the octy seems to be bending to my way of thinking - now if i could just sort out the heavy steering!

There are times when I accelerate and think Bl**dy hell thats quick! Other times I go for it and it doesn't seem as fast (maybe because I am expecting it?)

These cold misty morning in Scotland are the best for power. ;)

Totally agree with that! Didn't they try water injection on petrol engines? I think some second world war aircraft had it.

Ooops!!:)

Yes this is definitely the case with my car.

Tonight it was an absolute rocket and handled like it was on rails. Big grin from ear to ear.

At other times however I hate my car.

What's the score with you and your car Harry? One minute its pants and you want your Fabia VRS back big time, other times as you say it's the ultimate performace machine....

Have to say my Octaiva is probably the only car which no matter when or where I dirve it - it's always on form :)

I agree with the OP though, all other cars I've had always seem to drive better at certain times..

Actual water injection systems are usually anti-detonation, rather than power producers in themselves.

Yep, i used an Aquamist system on my 1st Impreza, more of an added little safety measure than a performance gaining addition.
