Does your car drive better at times ?

Featured Replies

A wierd on this, but driving home from work today my car drove lovely, felt like driving it miles.

It wasnt the power or anything imparticular, I was just enjoying the drive. Even though I was stuck in traffic for half the jorney.

Maybe its just the mood Im in when Im driving at times, but sometimes I love the way it drives, most of the time I dont think about it, and sometimes I hate my car.

Is it just me or do you have 'Nice Drives' from time to time ?:D

Maye its just me, a mental thing.

Yes I think I know what you mean. Just the sought of drive where every gear change is perfect, take every corner right and you get a nice flow to it.

I think so, yes.

Thats the baby.

Always when I've just washed it

(Guess that means that neo_VR always feels his drives like poo )

And sometimes the gearbox feels like it's full of spanners, the wheels are about to come off and the fuel has turned to syrup.

I completely agree, sometimes the car just feels "right"... cant really put a finger on exactly why mind. :)

So true...

 Yeah more often then not these days!

Yes this is definitely the case with my car.

Tonight it was an absolute rocket and handled like it was on rails. Big grin from ear to ear.

At other times however I hate my car.

Yep,

I sometimes wonder if it's the fuel quality that helps a bit to run the engine smoothly as well. That always helps when I'm having one of those drives.

Cheers

Know exactly what you mean, one of those 'summer nights' when its not to hot, sun is setting and you can have a good blat down some roads... all seems to just fall in place

Yes my changes like the weather one day great next day like a sack of ****.

Mine ran like a bag of spanners the other day, and it was really annoying to drive.

Jumped in it lastnight, and loved the drive home.

Although maybe more to fo with going home via B roads rather than the City Bypass. :D

Thats what summer is all about mate, i cant wait for it to get lighter at night

I find that some days my car feels quicker than usual but have no explanation for it,it never happens on fresh fuel it just happens randomly.

Yes, and with no obvious reason (weather, roads, new fuel, just serviced...).

If you think your car runs better in cool, damp weather, there's a reason for this: It does, really. The cool, damp air gives you a denser charge.

Cold and dry should be best, surely?

IME any run out where I don't grind it going from 1st to 2nd, or hit the gate going from 2nd to 3rd is a bonus!

No, cold and damp, because the water has a much higher specific heat capacity than dry air does, so the charge arrives in the engine cooler. It's not just me; people like David Vizard and Gerard Sauer have observed and reported this too.

These cold misty morning in Scotland are the best for power. ;)

Fair enough, although a bit of Wikipedia-ing shows the difference in C is minimal for variations in temperature and humidity (although two points of reference don't really satisfy the scientific method!)

I can see this degenerating into another 'how does the resistor mod actually work?' thread... :D

The "science bit" for me was in quoting those individuals as references.

That's a bit of a L'Oreal 'science bit', then? :P

Only in that I've not checked it myself; just quoted two well-known and regarded automotive engineers as sources.

But if it was placed on a conveyor belt, would it take off? :rubchin:
