Replacing Favorit Windscreen

Featured Replies

I have a skoda favorit and unforunatly my windscreen cracked,iv done tones of work on it so far thanks to experiance and the haynes manual, but iv never replaced a windscreen before:confused::confused:,haynes says that its a tough job cause the favorite windscreens dont use adheasive but are fit in to be water tight.

Need some experianced help:nopity:

I'd get someone experienced to do it, it is also worth getting a new seal and using that as the seals can leak with age. You might be able to pick up a half decent screen at a scrappie.

They are only water tight until the car is about 3 weeks old - get some sealer for when you do the job.

It may be worth asking at a windscreen company for a fit only price as it wouldn't take them any longer than half an hour. I remember when two of us did a MK1 Cavalier, old screen out, new screen in and cleaned 7.5 minutes.

Replacing a Favorite windscreen is a straight forward "string in" job. BUT is probably not the best car to use for your first attemp at it, as they are pretty tight in the appeture.

If you do want to have a go yourself here are a few tips.

Don't get carried away with lubricant on the seals, as this car make them too slippy and difficult to keep central, just a small squirt of water is enough.

When putting the string in the seal, add a loop at each of the bottom corners so that you can fit the sides first.

Always pull the string at a right angle to the appeture and with the string flat on the glass to stop the rubber getting torn.

Fit one side, then the other, then work your way to the centre.

Ok I bought anotherone and got it in, in less than 20m all you need is a toughf nilon string and a screwdriverand someone to apply pressure @ the bottom edge windscreen rubber the rest you can do yourself easily.

The mistake was I took AR-COOLC advise and went with the sides first big No No

Fist get the sring to overlap the bottom of the windshield rubber cuase if you get the sides and the top in and something goes wrong at the bottom, you will have to take out the dashboards to get acsess with the srew driver.

Thanks for that, I've only been fitting screens for 15 years ;)

HAHA!^^

Id never attempt anything like that myself to be honest...id loike to see if you have any leaks though afterwards.
