what about bmw's 330d with over 200bhp...?

There may not be too many performance diesels to compete with right now, but there are loads coming soon. Seat's Ibiza Cupra with 160bhp 1.9tdi, Fiesta Zetec-S tdci, Mondeo Tdci (bigger I know but still relevant), new 206 tdi-S, Peugeot 307 has a new Tdi 136....

There's a few to be going on with.

It seems that everyone's doing it!!

I think 'value for money' is winning over everyone so I doubt any new comers will come close.

apart from maybe the peugeots...............which will breakdown all the time and spend every month in the workshop for various germlins...............bitter you ask..................me never!!!

Ive had a chance to drive a few diesel "sporty" cars now.. and i think the VAG PD engine is the best by far, its very responsive and revvy for a oilburner:)
