Fabia radio/casstte player replacement

Featured Replies

My daughter has a 2002 Fabia (8v) with the usual Skoda radio/cassette player installed. She wants me to replace it with a Kenwood radio/CD player. Two probs I see with this:

1. The new unit is 1DIN. The original is a Skoda design and is

clearly bigger than 1DIN (in height). Does anyone know where can I get a 'surround' plate that will fill the surrounding gap? Alternatively, might it be possible to remove the 'tray' beneath the existing radio, fit the new unit there, and simply transfer the wiring/plugs from the existing unit to the new unit??

2. Are there any code implications in doing what I propose?

Grateful for any help/advice.

Pretty well covered if you serach but to summerise you can get a small filler plate from the dash from a skoda dealer for less than £3. You will need to swap a couple of wires over on the power side before you plug the new unit in.

Get the filler piece from the Skoda dealer, having recently fitted a Kenwood system myself the unit will come with an adaptor loom and the instruction mannual clearly states which of the bullet connectors you need to swap over. You will also need an aerial booster as the Kenwood unit won't power the aerial amplifier.

As far as fitting goes, it's a tight fit - I found the easy way to do it was to remove the cubby hole below the stereo.

Thanks for that KR MAN. The Kenwood radio/CD player was fitted in a Landrover Freelander (now for sale, if anyone's interested!) and she (the daughter) has lost the original docs that came with it. I'm a bit worried about the need to swap a coule of wires over before connecting, since I don't know which ones are imvolved. I have however temporarily plugged it into the Fabia and it certainly switched on OK, so perhaps I don't need to swop anything over?????
