Featured Replies

Hi

Just noticed that the rubber door surround that follows the curve of the rear wheel arch has started to remove the paint down to a the primer and in one place the metal. I toucned this up, keep the seals clean and silicone them to keep them soft. Anyonw else notice this problem?

Yes - I posted this a while back and the conclusion was that it should be covered under warranty.

Any luck at your dealer?

Not tried yet - car has now done 62,000 miles so would they really cover it?

Finally got round to taking mine to dealer to get it sorted - they'll cover by warranty BUT bodyshop need car for 2 days. My other warranty niggle is a rattle at 2300 rpm, and they have identified it as trim related behind dashboard, so they need that for 2 days.

Good news is that it isn't the turbo.

They'll give me a loan car for the week, although it'll be a fabia or a roomster

Hi All

Skoda UK surprised the dealer and covered the costs of painting the damaged area. I have now covered the area with a sliver of stonechip film which sould hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Only drawback was the loan car for three days - a Mercedes!!!

i have the same on both doors but the service guy at the dealer said they wouldnt cover it as it was grit on the door seals rubbing on the paint. might try another dealer to see what they say.

Hi

The dealer did not think that they would do it. I had the backing of my lease company to go back to the dealer as they have more clout with Skoda UK. (I intend to buy my care soon - hence the desire to sought it out). On the basis that Skoda UK agreed to pay to cover the cost - much to the surprise of the dealer I would push them to make a warranty claim. They can only be refused. Make tha point the Skoda Uk have already covered this on an out of warranty car and that it is a design fault (Golf's outer door seal stops beneath the window and does not carry on down the door).

The dealer rep and I also looks at a lower milage car and found exactly the same - I wash regulary and clean the seals so it pretty bad paint damage for a cared for car even with 63000 (at the time of the repair)

See how it goes

Any car that has rubber contacting metal will have this problem. Why do you think Skoda will be any different?

BMWs, Rovers, several Fords, any Vauxhall - all cars I've had or driven that have rotty bits round rubber seals. Worst I had was a Mk1 Laguna, rusted so much that the seal was compromised, letting water into the rear footwell, eventually leading to mushrooms. Really.

Well other than slight surface abrasion - I have never seen it as bad as with the Octy. I've had Mercedes, VW Golf I & V, Toyota's, even Fiats and Fords. It seems that the problem is only where the rubber ends in a sharp angle compared to a more rounded edge.

Car is in today to get the paintwork put like new. Will let you know what they suggest about keeping it like that.

They even measured the paint thickness to ensure it wasn't because of a dodgy repair job. Skoda UK happy to cover it after persuasion by the Warranty person at Henrys in Glasgow (South). Good job guys

would the silicone grease that lubricates rubber door seals stop this happening?

I have this too, on a 3.5 yr old Ambiente. 30K miles.

Evidence on three doors.

Common Fault methinks?

Off to see my dealer.

Since my last post mine has been in again for this. They realigned the doors slightly, but slightly too much I think. Now get rubbing at the top that I've touched up and will cover with tape at some point since its now out of warranty. No real hardship, but must come down to a problem with the harshness of the rubber of the close fitting of the doors me thinks

Should do because you'll be cleaning the door seals and lubricating them to keep them soft at the same time.

Silicone will help to keep the rubber supple - bit to be honest to stop grit or the rubber cutting into the paint you wouold really need to wipe the rubber every time you use the door - thats not very practicable. Anyway, my were sprayed FOC.

I had the same problem on mine 2007 RS. However I had spotted it in early stage. Skoda has released new type (much softer rubber) door seals that should be changed by the dealer.
