tuning my mk1 octavia vrs

Featured Replies

advice please, i have read loads of threads regarding induction kits and re maps on the forum past and present but can anyone help me decide ? panel filter or induction kit ? i would like to hear the noise that you get from an induction kit but the evoms kit is a bit pricey for me so what is best on a budget ? also who is best to see for a re map ? i live in the somerset but dont mind traveling say 100 miles.

If you want the noise then fit an induction kit(ABD/Carbonio) with a dump valve(Forge/Bailey)

As for remaps there are loads out there to choose from ;)

At the end of the day it is your choice.

A number of folks have tried and tested both and it is all about preference rather than all ut performance. I started in the early days with a K&N panel filter. It was ok, I than de finned the airbox and fitted Forge DV(slightly noiser). Then the list goes on and on. I now have a ABD CAI (more noiser)which with the various silicon hoses changed and a remap works very well. All these little mods are relative really, but as my VRS is running so sweet at the moment I can't complain. It will end up being what your overal wallet can handle and where your tuning imagination will take you.

For extra noise get one of the ebay induction kits they are only £40 and every bit as good as the expensive ones

My independent tester will justify that as he now has the ABD one as it still made the same power

in what way has it got noiser at each stage ? roar/wistle/flutter as i may go for the stripped out airbox route with a k&n panel. i dont like the idea of heat soak to a filter in engine bay but i cant really streach to a cai as i want a re map aswell.

true but i have also heard that it has been known for the ebay ones to be sucked apart due to poor build quality. you get what you pay for i suppose.

honestly.

There was more turbo noise with the DV and then the intake added the most, it added all the elements of noise ie spool and boost release.

The ebay CAI's are same as the carbonio in the way that they sit just below the headlight so there is no heat soak to worry about. Provided that it has a long intake you will be fine. I know what you mean though as people just add a cone filter directly to the MAF which as you say will suffer heat soak.

As for poor built quality. Its aluminium pipe with a couple of brackets on there so build quality doesn't really come into it and the connectors are standard silicone hosing with jubilee clips the same as the rest of them

The metal part of the CAI's from E-Bay cannot be sucked apart, the metal pipe follows the same route to below the battery as any of the expensive ones. The only weak part of them is the filter which again, on the ones supplied by John at Maximumpowered cannot be sucked apart, the best advice would be to change the filter to a Green or K&N if your worried.

As Matt's independent tester (LOL), yes, I have an ABD Racing CAI, but ran 238bhp (On true rollers) with the E-Bay one, so dont be put off by the E-Bay one if that is what your budget runs to.

I run the ebay Cai gerry has described and yes it is a nice piece of kit. There was no increase in power over standard but the dv noise is a lot louder.

What.

When did you get this? :D

lee ive sent you a pm.

I'm running a Pipercross Velocity Intake - make a nice noise, much louder than the standard filter, also have a Forge DV - personally I think the noise from the standard bosch sounded nicer but they're just rubbish :)

What.

When did you get this? :D

Last week, sometimes you've just gotta put your foot down and tell SWMBO how its gonna be.

Besides i quite like the spare bedroom :rofl:
