Alright folks, just a few questions if anyone has answers?

1. My dealership tell me that my octy RS doesnt need the cam belt done until 120,000 miles  , surely that can't be right!

2. My turbo rattles real bad when it's cold, is the shaft on it's way out?

3. This could be related to above, the car has used 1/2 litre of oil in 8000 miles, is this normal or is it cause my turbo may be knackered. (theres no blue smoke from the exhaust)

Cheers for your help folks.

May personal views, I have an Octy RS:

1) That IS correct, however mine will be done at 60k!!

2) I wouldn't have thought it was the turbo...there is hydralic (sp?) tappets and the charcoal recirculation filter that make a similar noise.

3) I find that I use between the Max and min marks on the dipstick between 10k services.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help, my belt will also be done at 60,000 despite what my dealer says.

Thanks again.

1) Went into a new dealer in Canterbury just to see what they were like & discuss servicing costs etc .... and one of the first things he said was that it was worth changing the cambelt at 60,000 to 70,000 miles rather than the official recommended time. I had heard this before on Briskoda and the fact that the guy offered the advice without any prompting did give me a feeling that he does know something about the cars.

2) no idea - mines not so noisy that i'd notice (other than the slight dieselish sound on start up ... which is normal).

3) same as / slightly less than Gavin.

I shall clarify, the oil consumption drops from MAX after the service, to approaching the MIN by the next service....but not close enough to warrant the adding of more oil close to service time. Maybe down to 1/5 of the distance between the two, never anymore than that!!

If the turbo was noisy \ worn, it would sound like an electric motor, a whirring sound.

(trust me on this one :D)

Sounds about right, i think the turbo shaft is starting to wear. Very high pitched whine!

Might take this opportunity to change to a KKK03 or a Hybrid turbo, anyone got any suggestions of which to go for?

Cheers

Si

i might be wrong< but i thought the vRS comes with a K03/04 hybrid turbo, perhaps go for the K04 turbo, as on the TT, cupra etc. OR something else like JABBA'S IHI turbo?

cheers.
