1.4TDI Classic - Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Although I've been a member for a while, this is actually my first post!

Had my 05 plate 1.4TDI for a couple of years now. No problems with it at all. However I've recently changed jobs and am doing a lot more motorway miles.

So, I asked D.M. kieth in Leeds if they could add cruise to the car for those long journeys when I can't be bothered to keep my foot on the pedal and they said the car didn't have the correct type of ECU.

Is this correct? Might it be a case of getting a non- OEM cruise system? Or possibly just buy a brick to leave on the pedal?:)

Any help/advice much appreciated.

I just needs a new ligth arm(Dont know the right english word for it).

The car has E-gas, so it is just a matter of a new arm, and some coding.

Maybe it needs a new comfort module.

You can get aftermarked kits, for cars with egas, dont know how good these are.

Best Regards

Morten

Thanks for that.

I had looked at that guide. Seems extremely complicated stuff, seeing as it took me a good while just to figure out how to get the door card off when I had a rattling speaker!

Does this mean it can be done, but the dealership don't want to have to cut into the wiring loom?

Cheers

I think the dealer could be right, the link explains the ecu differences to check on vagcom. Either you trust the dealer, or go somewhere else for a second opinion, or ask a tech (join freedom first). I would have thought that such a late model would have been able to accept cruise, especially if it's fly by wire (I assume that's what zeecue means by e gas), but I'm no expert.

edit: looky here at post 7, it's not looking promising:

PM vrstu, he has fitted cruise to over 40 fabias, including my sdi, so im sure you tdi will be fine

I recently saw a 1.4 Bohemia TDi which had the wrong Boardnetz controller, only one I have ever seen.

Have done other 1.4TDi without issue.

I do them without cutting the wiring loom.

Thanks very much for all your help guys, and really quick responses as well!

Knowing my luck my Fab will have the wrong type of ECU and I'll end up using the 'brick on pedal' method. :D

Stu - will send you a quick PM about 'Boardnetz controllers'

Cheers
