Bhp dreaming

Featured Replies

Hi every1

ive been looking through some posts lately an i was a bit disappointed with the bhp/torque figures ive seen, no offence to any1.

i was under the impression i could get 230bhp from just a remap, so i started wiv intakemods, carbonio, tip and the power gasket (sounded good), ive also just ordered a milltek and was thinking when iwas done i would get 250 after a remap, am i dreaming or is it possible,

shes gettin dyno'd next week wiv intake mods then after exhaust, just curious to see if anythings helped, im hoping for 190ish

Hi mate. Usually around 210bhp with just a remap and slightly more with some other mods, the main one being a sports cat and full exhaust which should give good gains.

Who is doing the remap for you?

I think the only thing on your list that would make any real difference is the Remap followed by the exhaust.

The others will give very small gains if any.

215bhp with map i'd say, if you get a half decent one.

I got 208 straight off on the rollers after my map.

Looking at a cat back now, so maybe squeeze a few more out.

depending on who is doing your remap get them to take into account your other mods as this may give you slightly more. otherwise 210 from remap is about standard depending on the engines life. i think a few claim more but 30bhp from just a remap is quite a bit.

With what's already been done, 230bhp from a good custom map might be possible. I'd think a sports cat and a free-flow zorst before mapping might make 250bhp possible, but I'd not promise it.

having done all these mods before and seeing others that have done these mods without some sort of super special turbo killing map 250bhp isn't possible, i stand by my earlier bhp estimate.

How do audi TT's pump out 225BHP? Are they the same engine just with a different turbo or is this a myth? I've looked at my friends next to my VRS and it looks the same but kinda different?:-s

There's more to than just the turbo, but it's basically the same engine in a different state of tune.

Has anyone looked into Cams for the 1.8t? Its all well and good getting it as free flowing to and from the head but what about getting it into the combustion chamber? If 240 is achievable with STD cams then 250 - 260 should be easily possible with some properly designed cams?

Just a thought.

Regards

Garry

Remember guys, it's not always peak bhp that's important when increasing power....

My remap was nearly 40bhp more in some places... but peak power is only up 20bhp.

I saw one octavia running on stage 2 claiming 360 BHP... assuming he was probably a dreamer?

no 360 is very possible and double that is also but it simply depends on what you are willang and able to spend.

the 225 engine has many different parts, twin intercoolers, different inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, injectors, 3" inlet system and maf and slightly stronger rods.

in order to go above 350 ish your looking at spending quite a lot of money as your talking a full rebuild with super dooper rods/pistons/valves and all new bearings/nuts/bolts etc as well a stronger gearbox, dif, clutch and then you will also need to be spending on other areas of the car to suit like brakes, suspenion and cooling.

Thats true. Just need to decide on how much you want to spend and what kind of power delivery your looking for afterwards.

Piper do cams for 1.8T 20V engines and claim 15bhp gain.Don't know if anybody on here has fitted them?

Hi lpool lad havent arranged the remap yet but was gonna go to jabba,

i seen on the power gaskets website 10bhp gain, i no thats a bit much but with other mods im hopin for 190 now, then over 200 with exhaust, then get the remap, ill post what ever she is next week, hope im not disappointed tho

ive ordered a non res milltek, any1 got 1?

hope its a nice noise

if your expecting 200bhp from a gasket and exhaust then i think you will be disappointed sadly.

A power gasket? lol.

On the cams question, I know nothing (except general principles), but can remember that there's a member who works for Piper Cams, and says as much in his sig block.

From personal experience i'd stay well clear of Jabba sports. There remap has caused my car to throw up a fault code. There are 2 other people that have this problem too with Jabba maps so i'd look to use somone else mate. Its quite strange really because Jabba are the most expensive and the most unhelpfull once they have your hard earned.

Yep, that be me. Just trying to see what people had found using our cams ;)

I shall stick a set in mine when i get 5 minutes. Do a before and after run on the rolling road to measure the gains. Im up at 230-240 now (depending on rolling road) so will be interesting to see the gains.

Garry

Can you throw a set my way too please Garry. :D

In fairness, if your happy to do some testing for us, then yes i would be :)

Would need before power runs, you to fit them, then run them for 500 miles or so then get an after power run to see what difference they made.

Do you use the car daily, cause i have an idea to make them work 100% in the Octy but need a set of STD cams from the car to measure first... Mmmm, thinking now.

Regards

Garry

I do use the car daily...no probs doing testing though. :D

Could probably find a set of standard cams though. :D
