Bhp dreaming

If your not interested in doing this Johnny then i'd be willing to. The Octavia doesnt get used much during the week as i use the wifes Focus for work.

Darren

To do the test properly, it would need to be the STD cams from the engine the new ones would be fitted to.

Reason being, we can measure the keyway location to the lobes. We have seen loads of different ones for 1.8T engines and as you cant get adjustable pulleys for them they need to be ground in 100% the correct place. This means they can just be fitted back in the engine without haveing to mess about setting the timing up.

This only has to be done once as we keep the details of the "Standard Octavia VRS" figures so can do them again when asked.

Johnny, best way to do it would be get the car rolling road tested, then take the cams out and send to us, we take the measurements, grind the new ones to a "Special" profile i have in mind, send the new cams and your std ones back to you, then you fit them back in, do a few miles to let the ecu adjust a little and bed the cams in, then get the car re rolling road tested to see how they worked.

Darren, if Johnny does not fancy it, then yes you can help.

Kind Regards

Garry

Interesting........keep us posted with any findings ;)

What would be the timescale involved Garry ?

I can organise other transport if it were a week.

PM if you pefer. :)

I do around 350 miles a week commuting, and depending on which route i take, it can be all B roads, or all dual carrigeway, so running the engine on both conditions can be done.

Rolling roads in abundance up here too. :)

Johnny

Lets say you take them out one weekend and sent them to me on Monday for Tuesday delivery, i should be able to get them turned around and back out by Thursday for Friday delivery ready for you to fit back in the following weekend :)

Sound okay?

Garry

Certainly sounds ok to me Garry.

Let me make a few enquiries regarding other transport and the guy that looks after the car, as i dont want to muck you around.

:)

No worries. Im not in a rush, the topic came up so thought it might be an idea :)

I would use my car but im busy with other projects at the moment. Making my own FMIC and such. One job at a time aye.

Off topic a little. You got any pics of your car with the LCR Splitter on. I keep thinking about getting one for my car but wonder if it wont get lost in the mass of black?

Garry

Erm...it's not actually on the car yet...it's in the car at the moment.

Im thinking that but ahh well only one way to find out.

So once i get paid ill know lol

Yep, cant see mine staying on long unless i go very easy ! ;)

Will look good though. :D

For those who had their car rolled: what kind of bhp did you get at the wheels? And what figure did that became as engine power?

What kind of power has been measured on std K03S turbo's? With or without other mods such as intercoolers, downpipes, exhausts, cat, sportscat or no cat?

Isn't cams on a std turbo being a bit early to change? Isn't that more suited for higher stages?

Here is a rolling road graph that cam with the car when i bought it. Since then it has had further changes and a different map but has not been rolled since. Hope it helps.

As for cams. They can be used in all engines from std to full race. As long as the correct spec cams are fitted in the correct application. Its a big problem that alot of people "Over Cam" their engines and then moan they run bad or are too peaky and cant be driven gently. If you get the right spec then its not a problem. Hope this helps.

Thanks! About 15% transmission loss, is as I thought it would be (15-18%).

Hope your exhaust sounds well as i have a cat back Jetex which looks standard but obviously bigger bore but is silent. Plus whoever designed it wants shooting as it sits so low. The pipe comes over the axle and angles down to the silencer and then back up to the tailpipe. The stupid thing is there is a massive space above the silencer. I took off the rear silencer to see how it sounded and it wasnt too loud with nothing on so i suppose you could fit a straight through. Not sure what difference it would make to back pressure.

So thats a no for the Jetex then ? :(
