Felicia Problem for a newbie

Featured Replies

We have two Skoda's in the family, one 1.6 GLXi hatch R reg and a 1.3.mpi estate R reg.

The problem I have is my Daughter's 1.3 mpi estate broke down whilst driving it to a friends. The Alternator has fried one of the components and the the battery is non functional. An independent says the ECU is faulty and caused the problem. I was not there at the time so I am not sure of all the facts.

Looking at the Haynes manual, I can't see how the ECU can control the alternator as there does not seam to be any direct connection in the wiring diagrams . However just in case the ECU is faulty, how easy is it to change out the ECU and get it working, as the Skoda dealer is talking loads of money to repair if the ECU is faulty.

Any ideas out there please.

Many Thanks

Hello and welcome!

ECUs are expensive, and if youre unfortunate I guess that the ECU fault could be a consequence of the frying (while the cause could be another).

But post your question in the Felicia section:

and you'll have good chances to get answers from people more knowledgeable than me.

Hiya.

On the general point, someone's got the wrong end of the stick. A faulty alternator could kick out too high a voltage, and fry the ECU, but the ECU (unless you mean the separate alternator regulator) most certainly does not control the alternator in any way, shape or form.

welcome along
