Tiny ding in Octavia black magic.....

Featured Replies

Despite my best efforts to avoid such, and always parking in ridiculously far away places in car parks, some **** has still managed to put the tiniest of dings in the rear door of my Octavia.

Paint has not been broken and I'm the only insane person that can see it but damn it's annoying me.

Anyone recommend any Central Scotland/mobile repairers to get the thing back flat again?

Not long had it detailed by the guys on here, see other thread, and it's spoiling it mentally for me!

I am just the same as you. I have an 05 mk1 vrs and someone has put a small dent in the rear arch. I am considering putting it into a body shop to get it fixed (foolishly I think). The fact of the matter is the only way to keep a car in A1 condition is to not use it! Or be willing to repair every little mark, but then you run the chance of the paint not matching.

do you have any pics? im sure if you search on here for repairing dent there is a thread and a link to utube to someone who fixed a dent with a aerosol can by freezing the dent and it pops out.

Jason, That a nightmare, I have used Alan Maskell in Halbeath (in fergusons yard) for bodywork before and he was very good if not a little pricey, Donald Alari In buffies brae or there is a chap in Tillicoultry/Dollar called the dent wizard or something similar, I will try and rake out his details.

I have always been the same with dings and chips in cars but look at it this way...........

When I look at other cars on the road beside me in traffic etc and I think, thats a nice motor, he/she looks after that, I dont see the dents/scratches that the owner sees and be annoyed with.

So, ok, you know the dink is there, but drive past me or 99% of the population and we will still think "thats a well looked after motor".

I think what has converted me is having a Navara for just over a year. Must of got 200 or so scratches on it, couple quite deep. Once clean and polished you dont see them unless a few feet away and are looking for them.

We just have to accept it Im affraid. Maybe get all of them done before you sell the car if it will increase the value.

Steve

I'm in the same boat as Steve.

Unless they're unsightly, i would leave any dents like that until there's either a few more, or you sell up.

I have a couple on mine now (good old Gyle carpark)

But only i notice them, so leaving them for now.

Not worth paying out, then for it to happen again next week.

Fair points indeed. Can only think it was at the airport multi storey as it's the only car park that does not really give you the option of parking an acre away from other punters.

I had about 3 small dents taken out when i first got my vrs, by a company called confi-dents. He used long type rods to push them out, no more dents! amazing! cost was about £65.

i would have recommended alan maskill,he has done my cars in the past but im afraid he is retiring,my boss ferguson recovery and alan have sold up,i need my front bumper sprayed to,also donald alari is no more to,he sold up,my mate who is a panel beater at alan maskills is moving to jackson coachworks in kelty in a few weeks,if thats any help.

Blimey, the Dunfermline coachworks trade has suddenly taken a big hit!

The likes of confidents sounds ideal, I'll try and find a roving man in a van locally.

Ive seen those videos on you tube

I bought a can of freezer spray from maplins a few weeks ago

and intend to arm myself with a hairdryer and the can of freezer spray to see if i can "pop out" a small dint on one of my rear doors

Ive been meaning to have a go at it for the last two weeks but never got round to it

I intend to give it a try this weekend

So i will post on here the results

Dint pops out or door falls off:thumbup:

Okeh

Have you tried to get the ding out with the freezer spray and a hairdryer.???

Matt

im interested too, what happened?

I tried it on sunday

The result was to say the least underwhelming

I tried the process three times before i gave up with the dint still in the door

By the looks of things it may only work with larger pushed in type dents not the tiny stone dent i was trying to remove:thumbdwn:

Exactly the same (except position of dent) :thumbdwn:

Thats interesting you should say that, I got a small ding the other week in a door mid panel and did the hairdryer and freezer spray thing tody, repeated the process twice and the ding came out perfectly. To the point i even washed the whole door thinking i must be seeing things.

When you look down the line of the car and from front on the ding really has gone.

Im amazed

How long did you keep the hair dryer pointed at the panel and how far away were you holding itfrom the panel?

um probably about 2-3 cm in a kind of waving motion on that very local area for about 20 secs of full heat (girlfriend has a s****y hairdryer) then just sprayed immediately the freezer spray which can cool to -50 instantly and spryed until the area went white with the residue.

Waited for this to disappear and wiped clean with a microfibre cloth. Should of been on the ball and taken some pictures, sorry

Matt

Thats what i did a few times but it didnt work for me:thumbdwn:

I might as well give it another go,because i havent got much use for a can of freezer spray otherwise:D

yeh try it again! did it not even reduce the dent slightly?

thinking about your s****y hair dryer, ive just asked my mrs about the hair dryer she gave me and she says it is crap.

So i will see if my mum has got a high powerd beast of a hairdryer before i try again.

Nope.. the dink didnt budge a micron

This all sounds interesting. I've got a car park ding on one rear door and a very slight ding from a golf ball on the roof - and the car was on my driveway at the time (b*st**d local yobs ).

I've not seen the video. What type of aerosol do you us, or does it not matter?

cheers

It will only work on a ding that you could pull out with a puller.

The aerosol is a can of 'keyboard cleaner' just a compressed air type, and you hold it upside down and liquid propellant comes out and rapidly cools on expansion.

Sounds about right
