Remap / Chip question

Featured Replies

Please can you advise the best re-map or chip for a Mk2 Oct - Petrol VRS ... what bhp / torque gains might be expected?

It's fast - but faster would be better ;o)

Have a look at REVOs site, they quote boh the figures you are after.

Revo Technik Serial Port Programming

Revo without question:thumbup:

For just a remap (no induction kit etc)

expect around 220ish bhp and 280ish lb/ft of torque:cool:

Believe me it will be the best £600 you ever spend and you will be gobsmacked by how it transforms the car. you will go from this:) to this :D:D:D:D

Beware once you start on the slippery slope of mods though you cant stop:rolleyes:

I think 220bhp is a bit conservative. I thought stage 1 was around 235bhp (but not the claimed 250bhp)?

i think you only get around 235 with a panel filter but could be wrong

I'd be suprised if the panel filter added 15bhp.

Good point :P

But i did say 220ish so thats my get out of jail free clause

Yes I like to caveat my statements with things like, 'ish', or 'I'd imagine' on the end

It's not that I work in a blame culture or anything!

I've heard rumors remap can improve economy - is this true?

Also please can you advise what are the standard lb/ft figures for a mk2 petrol vrs?

Standard is 200Bhp and 207lb/ft

Economy isnt improved with stage 1 if you floor it then it drinks it but ive had in excess of 40mpg sticking at NSL on motorways

In excess of 40mpg.... that's intresting to note :rubchin:

Another tick in the box of 'must have' reasons to get mine done

Its one of those oxymorons again. Getting chipped to stick at speed limits (not that i woul'nt mind you ) and only tickle the throttle to get maximum milage.....

It can be done iirc i got 41.9mpg over 230miles however i rigidly sat at 70mph and if i had to slow down for road works then i just put foot down in 6th to get back to 70mph then stuck there again.

There's no point loosing you licence:P Its just how quick you can get to the speed limit that is the exciting part:rofl:

Once i get on the Autobahns though then the consumption drops right down. Last time i drove back to Germany. I averaged 40.2mpg till i hit the autobahn. By the time id covered the 159miles of autobahn to my home i was at 22.4mpg but i had fun all the way . But that was only cos i just had to see what Stage 2 gives:rofl:

Ususally i stick at a sensible speed and my average journey round town is around 23-25 mpg and on motorways is around 33-36 mpg

Very quicky if you live in this country...

Mind you, there's a whole load of plonkers in green who seem to make an art form round my way of managing to drive landrovers at mach 1 in restricted speed limits.

Technically it's 197bhp (and 200ps) but I'm splitting hairs. 1 PS = 1.01387 BHP.

It's the best £600 you'll spend of that I'm sure! ;)

I'm sure it will be once I've got our relocation out of the way and we're settled in Wiltshire

Won't be any use on the A36 though, behind dodery old metro drivers, arctics and caravans

Chris

Also, most reputatble chip installers will give you a free test period of ignition on time,

Revo gave 5 hours, I believe and APR gave me 6 hours, I returned later for the APR chip for my mk1 and the mk2 will be going the same way (including free test period of course)

Will also help with faster (less time on the worng side of the road), safer overtaling, got 5 vehicles in one go on a single carriageway stretch of the A259 last year!

Best £600 I ever spent

I've not gone mental in terms of mods on my motor... Remap, Eibach/FSD combo, Neuspeed ARB, Panel Filter, Forge DV and a set of Iridium Spark Plugs... all-in-all about £1600 spent and worth every penny.

You don't have to go mental to enjoy yourself... but sometimes you just can't stop, just ask Sarah at Awesome about me :o

Mine has been chipped by Oscarli, and i must say it is amazing, I would highly reccomend it..... A BMW 335i could not leave me.

Never heard of Oscarli, - is it a custom or generic remap? How much?

Oscarli are apparently VERY good but I didnt know anyone that has a map of theres! I do however know a man that does their remaps, based in Uxbridge - Power Dynamics

Oscarli - Home Page

Power Dynamics UK Ltd.

Oscarli = Richard Washbrook.

Great guy and I'm sure you'd be surprised at just who he does write maps for ;)
