Nitro RC

Featured Replies

I know there are a few RC enthusiasts around on this forum so i thought it would be a good place to start.

I have some previous experience of RC cars, mainly tamiya, mardaves and traxxas models all battery.

However, i would like to get myself a nitro model. I was just wondering what people would recommend?

I preferably want 4WD, not bothered much about offroad/onroad but would prefer something that could handle a bit of both like a wrc model. Dont really have a budget at the moment but nothing daft! Finally i would really like to build it myself rather than pre made.

Dont get Kyosho!

IIRC we have someone on here who owns/works in a model shop... cant remember his name tho :o

I have a Nitro 10 schumacher storm which I was looking to sell.

Unpainted shell, futba (sp?) radio kit. Just need batteries, nitro fuel and a glow plug starter (went AWOL in the move).

Will part for a realistic offer.

Ive got a Sandmaster ST2 nitro... since ive owned it its never run for more than 10 minutes before something has gone wrong.

and its always been the stuff i havent assembled on it, clutches, gearwheels, driveshafts etc. and its always been a PITA to get hold of the parts..

if someone gives me 50 quid they can have the car and radio gear.

I suppose it depends want you wanna do with it. If your planning some serious racing then its worth spending the money, but if not then a toy would do I suppose.

I've only had a Serpent (but this is only my second year). Serpent Model Racing Cars - Main

for the latest 720 '08, see Serpent Model Racing Cars - Product - Serpent 720 08 1/10th scale 200mm

I think I'd recommend see whats local to you and replacement parts is a big thing. The serpent comes in a box of bits so you'll have fun. The manuals are excellent, bear in mind that they are race cars when you get a price. My mate is in Ireland so it would probably be hassle for ya.

The Border Online RC Shop

and

RC-Mushroom, Your One Stop RC Pro Shop

would be 2 big online shops.

I'm not looking at racing it, just a toy to play with really..

are there certain brands to avoid and some to look for?

You can't go wrong with Hobao and Hong Nor products. Great performance and value with a great spares backup at reasonable prices.

We have sold many Hobao Hyper 7 and 8 kits with minimal problems. The Hong Nor CRT Truggies are excellent aswell. As mentioned previously, the HPI Savage is also a great all rounder.

Have a look at the shop:-

Microtech Racing - RC Cars, Trucks and Buggies

I've got a HPI EVO 3 touring car and its amazing, however you do need a bit of space to run it! I can only just get it into its second gear on my road. Its an expensive toy, but oh the noise!! :)

Heres some Serpents at the Nations Cup

YouTube - Serpent Nations Cup 2007

Btw don't the F180 (F1 replicas look the business)

Theres a few other RC vids in my account ;)

I bought one of these for a bit of fun. (GB-4 Buggy)

U-GORACING!! Super Fast Nitro cars, buggys & trucks.

Use it for a bit, now its gathering dust. Glad I didnt purchase an expensive one.

Thats the problem alright, hence the need for a club etc or somewhere to race others or its very easy to loose interest.

Theres the geezer... he knows what hes talkin bout

I'd go for a stadium truck, truggy or monster truck like the Savage. I've got a Savage 4.6 SS which is awesome, can take jumps 6ft high plus and as long as you land it on its wheels it'll be fine. Even if you don't its ok 70-80% of the time. Just make sure you keep on top of stuff, like making sure everythings done up tight and loctited etc.

I've also got a Schumacher Fusion 21 which is a touring car and to be honest its a pain in the **** to find anywhere to run it. You practically need to take a brush with you when want to run it as the smallest stone will through it off line. Definitely go for something with a good bit a ground clearance. I also work on the principle that its a lot easier to find a big open grass area than it is to find a big open tarmac area, so thats another thing to consider!

Yeah, I think that would be a good starter truck. Getting a kit is probably the best thing to do. Because you've put it together from scratch you've got a much better understanding of how to take it apart when you need to replace something thats broken. The HPI instruction manuals are really good too. My Sav came in kit form and I built it over 2 evenings. Really good fun.

Well i am the proud owner of a HPI MT2 18SS+ nitro stadium truck, I had all the fun of building it this weekend and i have spent this afternoon running the engine in and getting it setup but im having a massive problem with the tyres.

Every time i make a sharp turn or accelerate up to full speed the tyres come off the rims, i have tried plastic glue and araldite and it has not helped at all. Whats the secret?

Ordered!

Thanks :D

Don't bother with the 4 dots of glue round the rim thing they suggest. I've never found that to work. i just run a bead of superglue round the entire rim. They don't go anywhere then, although they're a right bugger to get off if you need to!

Instructions??? where...

i just coated the entire rim on both sides with the stuff, i will know if it has worked this evening!
