IPOD Interface Connector

Featured Replies

Guys

I know this has been covered on many threads but wondered if someone could just set me straight from the outset ?

I have an Octavia VRS [new style], with the MP3 3.5 socket underneath the arm rest.

However I was looking at purchasing the Interface Connector which will permanently fix the IPOD into the stereo.

My questions are this.

  1. I have a 6 disc autochanger and the brochure mentions that this will be disabled on fitting the interface connector - Does this mean my autochanger will therefore become defunct as the IPOD essentially takes its place, or does one work when the other is disconnected from the cable and vice versa ?
  2. If I have the connector fitted, do the song titles / album titles show on the head units display when you play any tracks from the IPOD ?
  3. I presume you can fully control the IPOD from the head unit as it will be located within the glovebox ?

Many thanks

BR :)

1. yes and no ;) What it says in the brochure is technically correct, the ipod adaptor plugs into the same socket as the cd changer on the headunit. So you will lose the autochanger. Having said that, I'm sure you got rig up a switch so you could switch between the two.

2. Not sure if the headunit support ID3 tags (Fabia MkI doesn't). Does it display track names for CD's?

3. Volume, track forward / backwards, skip forwards / backwards, playlists (Dension Icelink works slightly different to the VW one - do a search)

Re: the ID tags, I suspect not looking at other comments on the internet...

I'm a little confused though, the brochure also says

Suitable For: New Octavia, New Fabia and Roomster

Information: Not suitable for use with Audience head unit. Fitting time 50 TU. Not suitable for vehicles with factory 3.5mm audio input.

Which considering the cars come with these as standard don't they, this seems to be a contradiction in their brochure or is it me being daft

Not 100% on the Skoda item but the VW Ipod link works as such.

Does not display track details, just Track 01, Track 02 etc.

Removes the functionality of the 6CD, wiring replaces that of the changer so it is then defunct.

The headunit will only control the first six folders in your ipod (if a changer could have been fitted) and is limited to 99 tracks per folder.

IIRC shuffle function of the Ipod doesnt work.

Not sure how the jack is connected to the headunit. Either way if you have a cd changer you can replace it with a ipod adaptor.

To add further to Lummox's post. With the VW adaptor. Buttons 1 - 5 plays the first 5 playlists, and button 6 plays all tracks. Whilst the display is limited to 99 tracks, its will play beyond that but will display track 1 etcetc on the HU. Oh and random can be switched on / off from the HU.

its easy enough to make your own aux in for an ipod, three wires into the back of the stereo and a 3.5mm stereo jack lead and bobs your uncle.

I went for theBrodit mount for the iPod and the Dension iceLink. (It disales the autopchanger, as you unplug the changer lead and plug in the ipod).

Highly recommend it over the VAG option. Installed mine without any drilling or perm marks to the car. Can be easily removed.

Only downside is that the changer in the boot is now disconnected, but I never used it anyway.

Has to be said though, why would you need a CD changer and an iPod? :)

Mine is just disconnected and in mint condition.
