Water drivers side rear footwell

Featured Replies

A ghost took a pee in my car, only realised on the way back home from work today. Had passengers in the car saturday at weston, so must have been yesterday or today.

No washer fluid smell, just Ice cold water. Ive checked out the pollen filter, that looks okay.

Any Ideas to the cause ?:D

There is a good chance its actually coming in through the front. It shows up at the rear as the carpet is much thinner. I'd pop a sill trim up at the front and have a look under the carpet, see if its wet. Drivers side you could be looking at a bonnet cable gromet or maybe its coming through the door membrane.

It does feel wet, behind the membrain and bodywork where I have put the Blue star:

Hi had the same problem on mine it was caused by where the wiring loom coming through the bulkhead above the dashboard. If you remove the plastic panel under the windscreen make sure that the drains into the wings are not blocked with leaves and debris. If its clear you need to check that the bonnet release grommit is watertight and just to the side of this there is a large plastic box which the wiring loom goes through i had to remove the wiper motor assembly and remove the plastic box and reseal it with silicone sealent to the metal panel.

Cheers to you both.

check the actual rubber around the doors, i had a leak on the passenger side near top of the door and after readjusting the rubber seal all the way around its stopped the water leaking in the bottom too and ive been through some quite deep flood water around here yesterday with no problems.

Had the skuttle panel off (What a bugga), everything looks good. Did some trials with water and it seems to drain okay down the holes on the wings and onto the ground.

Checked the bonnet release grommet and that seems good to.

Car is still wet, so Im going to dry it a bit now and see if it returns either from the wet weather or from the air con.

Found out also that the washer jets for the lights only work when driving not when the car is at a standstill.

Just checked the front wheel arch gaurds that meet up with the body work, checked the drivers side and found one leaf, passengers side absolutly ram packed with mud and cr@p.

Going to take the wheel arch of a dinner and clean it out.

Hopefully the cause of my problem. Woo Hoo

Clean out wheel arch, not as much as I thought but very wet cr@p disposed of.

Will let you know how I get on.

Car also booked in for 1st April

On more investigation, under the carpet on the drivers footwell the sound proofing was soping wet, which has been causing the rear footwell to get soaked.

4 towels later and there are no more puddels, just very damp.

Checked the passenger side and its all as dry as a bone.

I have stuffed kitchen roll in the top right corner of the drivers footwell under the soundproofing by the accelerator (above the blue star in above picture) and tipped loads of water on the window, going to check that in a bit to see if its soaked any water up as it did feel a little wet in that region.

Anymore help would be great as the investigations continue.:D

When mine leaked it was all soaking wet.Luckily i have a vax carpet cleaner and used that to suck up the water still took ages though. Not to sure about yours now.

HI

I had the very same problem with my 02 octy vrs it was the grommet at the bonnet release cable held a hose over it and you could see the water running into the drivers footwell.

It cost me a new carpet and sound proofing

Hope you get your problem solved

Regards Whoosh

Going to try the above tomorrow, thanks for all your help.

Bl00dy started raining here in brum, great. I've stuff 2 towels under the sound proofing, to soak up any water tonight.

If it drys and stinks ill get the sound proofing and carpet replaced. will put a black carpet in though.

fingers crossed sealant will do the trick.

thanks again briskodians.

Okay Ive now sealed the black box and the boot release grommet, Dried out the car better than I thought I could, put the carpet back down and the bits of plastic trim I had removed.

Couldnt find anymore wet soundproofing apart from the bit where the black box comes in that I sealed.

Car still going to the garage on the 1st April as Im unsure If the aircon drain is okay.I cant get water to come out of the drain, I unsure if its the weather or this is what is making my car into a swimming pool.

Also Ive fabreezed the car, smells lovely.

Started hailing now, that hard it hurt my face. Hope the gunk goes off okay with the weather.

Oh! I have a week off from today, Im on Easter Holiday, Factory Shutdown, Woo Hoo!

Had the carpet up again today to check for anymore water as it has rained a bit in Brum this week.

There was a bit of water, but I think its condensation from having my heaters on full wack with every journey trying to dry it out. Ive popped a towl under the carpet and drounded the car today, so will see if any water makes it way through.

Still going to the dealers next tuesday.

I will kepp you all updated.

No ones mention it yet. Do you have a sunroof?

My Mk1 leaked for a while in a similar fashion on the passenger side - turned out the front drain that runs down the A-pillar from the sunroof had become disconnected in the headlining.

If you take off the sun visor and grab handle on the relevant side and peel back the door seal, you should be able to peek under the headlining and check that everything is OK.

Hope this helps.

No sunroof mate:thumbup::thumbup:

hi

hope you sorted your leak mine did exactly the same, but also lead to a buggered convenience module, the water on mine was running off the scuttle panel and directly onto bonnet cable and in the grommet via the cable, found mine whilst hoovering, plus there was a hole in the roof too, took plastic trim off, and under silver bracket for roof bars a small rusty hole was letting water in which ran down head lining and out of the rear trim in roof,

also got one in boot under n/s lamp drips in through a seam, tried everything but cannot stop it,

it would probably let less water in if it had no windows

Well its pi$$ing it down now. I cant sleep, small things like a leaky car playing on my mind.

Tomorrow hopefully all will be dry. Fingers crossed.

Well I checked the car this morning all its not wet inside after last nights downfall, so its looking good on the sealing side of things.

hi mate,

solve the problem yet? i know the aircon pipe can get crimped and cause a leak so its worth checking that your drain is dumping water under the car when you start her up, if not it could be dumping it into the car. My car is wet through too at the front drivers side, but my aircon is working ok, so recon it could be through the cable release or one of the other points you guys have mentioned (thanks for the pointers). However, i am going to use this opportunity to replace the carpet with a dark carpet and fit some extra wiring too:>

Might be doing the same to replacing it with a black carpet, looks an esy task, Will see how it smells once dry.

It has been raining and all is well, but havent had the aircon on, when it is on, I cant get water to pass under the car. Maybe the weather isnt hot enough to make water, if that makes sense.

I just used Homebases own clear silicone to do mine, works well and doesnt look messy.

Oh! I found out today I put my front wipers on the wrong way, Im a tw@. LOL

its def worth doing the carpet (just over £100) from the main dealer, in a much nicer anthracite, and i am also going to change the sound deadening too, may put something a bit better in, not sure yet.

Recon it could be sumthing to do with the drain pipe with the aircon by the sound of it. Octavias are meant to be a pretty leak free car (compared to a lot of the vw/audi range) though am not sure i can agree with that statement now!!!

LOL, reading on here its like every owner has leaks, but then no one posts 'my octavia doesnt leak':D

lol, vey true!!!

am gonna strip my interior (i saw delcacs car today....its minus most of its interior........thats given me my motivation:>).

Need to check it over a couple of weeks without the interior to be sure i find the source of the leak, because the last thing i want to do is get my new sound deadening wet and have to do it all again!
