Advice before 1st service

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Got my 1.9tdi Elegance (2nd hand) going in for it's 1st service on Friday and got a couple of things I'm thinking of asking the dealer ot look at. Wondered what people's opinions are for:

1. Central Locking

Mine is configured for driver door unlock on 1st button depress - and everything else on 2nd press. But it's a bit frustrating as if you leave it just a few seconds too late, it doesn't open all doors. Been thinking of getting then to change the setting to one press unlocks all. What do people have on their cars?

2. Delamination

I think my windscreen has this problem, it affects about 75% of the bottom edge but only a couple of millimetres deep. Do you think it's worth getting the dealer to look at this? Is any sign of delamination a straight forward case of changing the screen under warranty?

3. DMF

I asked the local Skoda dealer a couple of months ago to check whether my car was on the recall list (it wasn't according to them) but is it reasonable for me to ask them to make the physical check of the DMF??

Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Have mine on open all on one button as I found the two click a pain in the ****. the dealer might do it for free if you ask nicely but they may also charge you

not sure on this one, suppose it may depend on how helpful the dealer is feeling

Is the VAG COM plugged into the car on a servicing?

I don't think dealers use Vag Com, they have a different system but the car will be checked for fault codes and any updates needed will be carried out during service.

Is there a way of checking the DMF without removing the gearbox, ie is there an inspection hatch on the box itself?

Windscreen should be replaced without question (known problem).

One press opening as said may be done free of charge. If not it shouldn't cost very much. Defo worth getting done. I would also recommend getting the confirmation chirp enabled so you know the car is locked.

Thanks Chris

Discovered today that you can change this yourself if you have Maxidot...

Hi all! Just had the service done and everything okay.

In the end, the Skoda garage did the central locking one press change for free although because the service manager was on holiday (it being Good Friday), they need me to take it in again for the windscreen to be looked at for the delamination. The woman in servicing who I dealt with seemed to hint that it was a known problem tho!

They even swapped my front/rear wheels over (since they get taken off anyway) as the fronts were getting worn down. They also adjusted my drivers door as it's always sat proud by about 2mm when closed since I've had it (3 months).

Car didn't get washed or anything. Nothing spectacular but efficient service - I went to Farmers Nottingham.

Cost was £217 - this was after I haggled them down on the phone when I booked the service - they originally wanted £270!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will take the car down on Tuesday to see what they say about the windscreen.

Have a Happy Easter all!!:)
