Is my Octy I human after all ?

Featured Replies

Well I suppose it had to happen eventually !

My 4*4 combi , after nearly 7 years and K100 has developed a fault !

The brake lights will not go off even with the key in my pocket .

I have been towing a trailer .

Has anyone got any ideas as to the likely cause ?

There are no warning lights on the dash and everything else appears to be working .

Wiring to the towbar I would guess

Check the connections to the trailer and check where the wires were taken from the original harness.

Brake light switch.

Brake light switch.

:iagree: If the brake light switch is jammed in a closed state (creating an open circuit) then the brake lights will stay on. However this should not be the case with the ignition turned off unless you've a short somewhere.

Check the brake light switch, its located at the top of the brake pedal. Also locate the brake light fuse and disconnect it and see if the lights go out

I disagree, the brake light circuit is dead with the ignition off. Dodgy towbar wiring methinks!

That's curious, mine come on with the ignition switched off as well, I just thought it was something peculiar to Skodas

Can't say for sure until I check mine, but as you said above it is not been like that on any car I have had previously

Its not dead when the ignition is switched off, if you press the pedal with the ignition off they should come on. Its more likely going to be the switch, they ain't the best, i think the latest upgraded switch is green in colour.

With the ignition off your brake light WILL still work when you press the pedal, most cars work in this way.

Steve:)
