green cotton air filters

Featured Replies

im thinking of fitting one of these to my standard 90 bhp octavia tdi. this will be the first bit of engine modding ive ever done (dont laugh) and was just wondering if they are any good. if they are reccomended, where can i get one and how much ? any feedback appreciated -dave:)

I had one on my 106 - it wasn't that great. I was much happier with a k&n, and I've had a k&n on every car since. However, it may just be entirely in my head that k&n is better than green.

Green use thinner filtration media than K&N IIRC so require more cleaning. Cotton-gauze only ever flow more air when straight out of the box anyway, so unless you're going to clean them every weekend fit a foam airfilter or stick with the paper one.

I have had a foam one on my car for 60k and was good

I got better fuel economy out of mine

So  for foam on mine

so it looks like a no no for the green version, and going by popular opinion the foam one seems to be the way to go.which type did you use ?

just looked on fleabay and there is a pipercross one for 26 quid .sounds quite good from the tech blurb and about 20 pounds cheaper than the green one !

how much do you expect to unleash?

i was joking , but have also ordered a new maf as power and mpg has gradually dropped off and as i do 80 odd miles to work and back thought it time to try something.will probably get around 2 bhp extra :D wooohooo im easily pleased :D

I found that after adding a pipercross filter that the car "seemed" to rev slightly better

Might of been a placebo effect though

I think the engine will rev a lot better with any new air filter, whether it's a performance one or not, especially if your current filter is due for a service.

I've got a green on mine and also two on the V8 and just got one for Carolyn's superb.

Never had any problems at all. A friend who races an elise swears by them and prefers them to K&N.

Probably personal preference though tbh.

Cheers

I've used K&N, Green, ITG and RamAir in the past and tbh, there is very little to choose between them so I usually go with the cheapest. My only complaint of the Green is that it wasn't a very good fit in the air box and it seems a few other people have experienced this too.

No improvement in performance or mpg, but did result in more noise and performance stayed consistent for longer (ie the filter doesn't clog like paper ones). No problems ever with MAF failure with oiled ones either.

Just trying to decide whether I should invest in one for the Fiat....

Chris

I'm getting a green cotton on friday hopefully along with the pd160 so this makes good reading.
