Clutch Slipping & New fly wheel

Featured Replies

I have a problem, I think my clutch is giving out after my revo remap. I floor the car from low revs in a high gear and the engine revs rise but there is no pick up in speed. The revs then settle and the car picks up speed. My friend said I should have a new clutch fitted but he also suggested a new fly wheel. Can anyone give me an idea on trhe best set up to go for. The car is standard apart from the revo remap and should be staying like that for quite a while bar a lottery win.

Jabba supply the performance sachs kit, well worth a look. It all depends on how much you want to spend, a normal clutch will set you back £100 tops........www.vwspares.co.uk

...but for the uprated performance flywheel and clutch set up dont expect much change, if any form a grand!

I agree.

If your leaving it at the revo map and not going for any more power( hybrid turbos etc), then go for the sach organic clutch and sach uprated pressure plate. They come in at around 450+vat and feel identical to oem just with more Bite.

The flyweel could well be knackered, its been known to be at fault and the clutch be perfect. The DMF flywheels can be had for around the £200 mark if you look in the right place ;) A dealer would want £380 for a new oem DMF

Fitting wise, its a 4-5hours worth of labour job. and you have to factor in a 40 quid clutch release bearing too.

IF your going higher, get a loan it gets very expensive, helix smf and clutch setup around the 790+vat just for the clutch and flywheel

Silly question but why would you do this? Doing this can kill a clutch on a standard car let alone a remapped one.

If you didn't experience any shuddering when you did it when the clutch was fine, then just go get a new clutch installed.

If it shuddered, get your remap checked too as it will deliver too much torque around 2000rpm.

Thanks for the replies, I will take it out and see what happens. I will also get my mate to drive it. In response to flooring it in a high gear, I guess I have just got lazy and been spoiled with the way thecar pulls from low down. I guess the torque delivery at 2000rpm is because it is a generic remap and not a specific car setup.
