Scratch removal

Featured Replies

My girlfriend has a black metallic KA, it has very fine scratches and swirl marks.

Can anyone reccommend what product to use, by hand as I do not have a machine polisher.

Any help would be grateful, many thanks.:)

Poorboys SSR1 (super swirl remover)

Smells good too

Can be very difficult without a machine polisher but as above PB SSR1 is good as is Sonus SFX1 and Megs #83, Megs have very recently brought out #100 which is VERY abrasive and not yet available in the UK which may make hand polishing a little easier.

Alternativley in the mean time a filler like Autoglym SRP may coverup some of the scratches.

Put a shoutout for someone in your area with a PC Buffer/G220/UDM/ rotary that may be willing to help for a few beer tokens!

Autoglym SRP would be my recommendation.

I'd use Meguiars Scratch X, go over each panel maybe twice or three times depending on how bad the marks are. Then Go over the whole car twice with Autoglym Ultra Deep SHine. This is better than the normal Super Resin Polish as its designed for darker colours. If you then have enough energy, cover the car with a very light coat of Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. Its a synthetic sealant that last quite a while. All these are available from Halfords too.

As last post but although it's a dark car in this case i'd recommend Super Resin Polish as it has a bit more bite to it which will help remove minor scratches/swirls etc! Ultra deep shine is superb on dark coloured cars & i'd definately recommend you use that once the clarity in the paint is achieved! Finish off with a good coat of Liquid hardwax (trade name) or High Gloss as it's called in the retail sector & you are good to go! If you really want the ultimate in protection i cannot recommed AG LifeShine highly enough, especially on a black car which i have no doubt all owners/readers of this post will testify to, can be a magnet for scratches, marks, swirls etc! Hope this advice helps, have been in the trade for nearly 5 years now! Regards....

You are going to struggle without a Machine polisher and as you are located in the midlands there are lots of people that could do this work for you........

Problem is most of the products you will use by hand will only fill the scratches in the short term and not eradicate them...........

Just to add to the above, maybe take a look at your washing technique ie maybe use two bucket method and a wash mitt instead of a sponge.

Personally I would reccommend Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Then use Meguirs ScratchX over the deeper ones.

Then use a coat of Turtlewax Gloss Guard Sealant

Topped off with some Caranuba wax.

Remember to use clean cloths, if you drop them DO NOT use them.

Thanks for that, but i do use the 2 bucket method with a wash mitt. :)

I have a black octy and recently used Sonus SFX1 and SFX3 with great results with a sonus sponge cutting pad! The SFX1 will remove light scratches, and the SFX3 is a finishing polish with will remove light swirls. Works well on dark colour cars, i was really impressed with the results have a look here for more info Clean Your Car - car care products UK

Along the same vein, has anyone ever tried these Glare products? GlassPolish Shop

I came across them, but have never bought or tried them?

Pete
