How stealable is a mk I Fabia

Featured Replies

Right oh, there's been 2 car thefts within the last week in the SWMBO's street. And i'm kindov bricking it - dont want my pride and joy stolen.

Question is how good is the Fabia's security and are car jackers likely to target it? its an 04 vrs btw. The two cars stolen were a 106 p reg and an old astra... do theifs usually target older cars with less security??

What i've done so far is, remove my stereo fascia everytime the car is left and taken down my road angel bracket.

I have also been to Halfords and purchase an AutoLok that fits over the handbrake and gearlever . With this came two AutoLOK security stickers that i have fitted to the rear quater windows!

Anything else i can do? was thinking some ' this car is fitted with a vehicle tracker ' stickers?

Also i don't want to know how to steal a car but are they easily nickable and is the security / immobiliser any good??

are they alarmed??

Cheers

Jason

Get one of these...

Nice big visual deterrent

Clean the mark left by the road angel bracket on the windscreen:thumbup:

TBH the average car thief will just steal the first one they can break into. Newer cars tend to have better locks, security systems etc.

If a thief REALLY wants a particular car, they will pinch it.....I know to my cost.

The more you can slow down a thief the better - the steering wheel cover is a good idea.

Yes, they are alarmed.

I changed mine to the "German" spec alarm, if anyone breaks into my motor, the whole street and streets round about will know!

HA HA!

A thief will just steal a car if they choose to really.

With more and more electrics the best way to steal a car is with the keys.

If you already take precautions like alarming etc then you're usually safe anyway.

got myself a disklok and some "tracker" stickers off ebay

The alarm on the VRS will knock you off your feet if your right outside the car.

They will need the keys to nab your car, so its what you decide to do with these every night which will dictate what happens to your car.

(I recommend leaving them at the bottom of a jar filled with barbed wire and salt :D)

The Autolok handbrake/gearshift lock is useless and less than 10 secs to remove. The other steering wheel disclock is a good choice:thumbup:

Disconnect and take the battery in with you every night :D

I agree, where you put your keys I so important (ie, no where near your letterbox). Try keeping it parked in the drive, but failing that, keep it under a streetlight. My current motor, a red Nissan Sunny, has been taken once, then recovered, and someone attempted to take it again. The Gardaí (police) said they target them because they're easy to steal so I think once the keys are hidden and you have a decent deterrent you'll be grand.

By the way, thanks to those scumbags, my Sunny now sports a green drivers door - they bent back the original and broke the steering column. I look like a right pikey!

I'm planning on fitting a DIY hidden switch in my car somewhere so that even if the tea-leaves get my keys they won't be able to get the car started. Might buy a little more time to get the law out or arm myself with a lethal weapon. ;)

SWMBO

I'm going to sound dumb here, but what does that mean?

"She who must be obeyed."

... For those under the thumb ;)

My uncle used to remove the ignition lead when he had an old banger. Only cost him like 200 quid for the car, but he even felt safe leaving it unlocked most of the time with his special 'immobiliser'. All depends on your attitude I guess?

Me, I've accidentally left my drivers window wound down in a multi-story carpark for 5 hours or so. So I think all my luck is used up. My advice is park next to a Saxo, they're easier to get into than a whores knickers.

found out the other day about my alarm, just sit inside your car and lock it with the fob out of the ignition, and after about 30 seconds and a bit of movement the alarm will sound.

Ah, the ol' King lead trick

Personally I am a big fan of this;

Most cars today are like ' fort knocks '

Wheel lock oh, and electrify your handles, just dont forget to turn it off when to open the car Bssssssssssssssszt heheh :)

  how did you achive the "German" spec?

You can reduce the chance of them targetting your car by reducing the incentive to steal:

1. at night, empty the glovebox and open it so they can see there are no iPods or SatNavs lurking in there (or money).

2. Also, remove the rear shelf tray so they can see nothing is sitting in the boot.

3. If you use a DiskLok it *might* act as a red rag to some thieves. So I wouldn't bother. Thieves want money and objects in your car to sell rather than the car itself. If they just want a car they WILL target older cars with weaker security.

4. Rent a garage.

Yer the most inteligent alarm system on the market......even the stupid mutts

Our dog is great, better than any alarm system.

Common sense would be the best way of keeping your car :)

If someone want's it badly enough, they will have it, no matter what you do to prevent it.

As suggested, definately keep valubles out of sight, better still out the car. I dont think it's a target for thieves, apart from Mr Grumpy's, I'm not aware of any others stolen outright.

I've always worried that one day the car will be broken into even sitting on the drive, so I was quite releived when the last owner fitted a gear box lock to our fabia.
