Doesn't that also turn the alarm off though? Bit counter-productive?

I was told by the dealer to push it twice to set the alarm.

hmmm now that is interesting, double clicking it on mine doesnt disable the deadlocks, i'm sure clicking it once doesnt even activate them as i've tested it from being in the car, i usually push my button about 4 or 5 times as i'm walking away from the car at night.

i wasnt aware it deactivated the alarm though.

I was told by the dealer that two clicks activated the alarm, I think for the first 6 months owning the car I never had the alarm sensors on because of it. But I've tested it, and two clicks does turn the alarm off and deactivate the deadlocks.

Also; you can't lock people in your car (quietly), as the alarms on with deadlocks, and off without them.

I have also been to Halfords and purchase an AutoLok that fits over the handbrake and gearlever

Wasn't particularly impressed with one of these I had on my Corsa. I managed to remove it when I forgot the key far too easily.

As said, if someone really wants your car they will get it. The more security you have, the more likely the people are to come after you/your family for the keys. If they've just pinched older cars it sounds like they're just opportunists and your deadlocks and immobiliser should prevent them doing that.

1. at night, empty the glovebox and open it so they can see there are no iPods or SatNavs lurking in there (or money).

And remember to somehow disable the glovebox light, or you won't be going far in the morning.

Spose no-one would nick it though... .:rubchin:

I wired up a hidden switch on my old golf, basically cut the power to the ignition coil.

Was funny when i forgot to turn it on and wondered why the bloody thing wouldnt start

At work I've been leaving the glovebox open after someone tried ot break the passenger window. The light stays on but doesn't seem to drain much battery even after 7-8 hours.

found out the other day about my alarm, just sit inside your car and lock it with the fob out of the ignition, and after about 30 seconds and a bit of movement the alarm will sound.

You really don't need to go to that much trouble if you really want to set it off. Just lock it with the button then unlock it with the key, leave it 30 secs and it'll go off. Don't even need to open the door :D

I worry about mine too, but even I'm not THIS paranoid lol. Most of the theives knocking about will just want to joyride. They'll go for whatever is easiest to get into. I know someone who had their old corsa stolen a month or two back. She thought it had been stolen to order  Really, it was just joyriding kids, they picked hers because of the poorer security. As said, if someone really wants your car they will have it, even if you take the wheels off every night!! They will bring a pickup truck lol

Mine goes in the garage every night, so should be ok..... lol

when the scumbags tried to get mine the gards advised me to park the car on the street away from the house so they wouldnt know which house to get the keys from and to fit a battery cut off switch....

k:)

AS Fab vs said leave glove box open and remove rear shelf...that may deter ***** that just want a smash and grab. And the next cheapist thing is the disklok. You really need to take that autolok back its no good.

Agree with the common sense approach, leave nothing of value in the car, if you have a removable facia take it, make sure there isnt a 'sat nav' ring on the windscreen.

dont leave anything in view, I had a car broken into and the only thing taken was 4 fresh bread rolls in a white paper bag from the back seat. :D.

Ah, the ol' King lead trick

Personally I am a big fan of this;

What you haven't seen is her petrol powered ride-on pooper-scooper she uses when she takes it for walkies. ;)
