Octavia 4x4

Featured Replies

Picking this up on Saturday from a well known Skoda dealer. Octy II 1.9Tdi 4x4. It does feel taller from the driving seat, but still easy to drive. Itll be coming along the the Star on the 4th. Something a little different, although itll take some adjusting after the Fabia. Insurance was £527 from Direct Line too.

Any tips/hints with the 4x4? Never had this kind of drivetrain before.

Must admit I'm a tad surprised as it's a very 'grown up' car but a good one none the less

Im trying something new :) tbh I never break the speed limit, at least not knowingly, due to scaring myself silly thinking id been caught doing 90 in a 60, during my first two years. Im thinking the bigger car will be more useful, as im quite a lanky guy, and fitting someone of similar size behind me in the Fabia made my driving position uncomfortable. Im sure theres still a way to have fun with a 4x4 :)

Hi

Good choice, enjoy.

You old, old man Kevin!!!

Look forward to seeing it at Newbury! :)

Isn't dad jealous?

Enjoy it fella!!! :)

(Oh, and that looks suspiciously like Sparshatts ;) )

Hope you enjoy your new car!

It will drive like a front wheel drive mate, especially the way you drive! :P

It only engages the rear wheels when a wheel looses traction. :)

It grips and grips in the twisty bits, and doesn't feel so high off the road.

The gearing is odd - 1st and 2nd are a bit low (which contributes to the poor 0-60mph times) but this helps in snow.

The 1.9tdi isn't the strongest pulling engine, but keep the revs in the right place and the car will shift, although it tends to run out of puff.

I have 4 months of MPG data that I can post on here if anyone's interested?

I am a bit jealous to be honest :o he's got a lot more toys than I have....including ESP and six speed box

Ahh but I bet your wheels will look nicer.

Welcome to the 4x4 club fella.:thumbup:

I've taken my Scout for a few ventures down some very muddy byways and through a ford (1.5 feet of water - upon reflection maybe a bit on the deep side ;) ) and on the whole I think it is brilliant

Been studying local OS map at the weekend trying to think of some other interesting places to take it ...

That purchase site looks "familiar", you and Stu on commission?;)

Damn right!!!

I'll be very interested to know how you get on with it, I'm 90% getting one myself, once I get my current car sold!

I have already earmarked a few routes that were inaccesable to my Fabia, slippery slops, farm tracks etc. Im feeling slightly liberated lol. Over this winter there have been places that the Fabia just wouldnt make it to. Also managed to get it stuck he he. Always liked bigger cars, feel safer in them. Had a Volvo 340 as my first car, the biggest car in Sixth form, but that was just ugly. :uglyhamme

(riph72 - ill give it a couple of days and then ill write up a review of some sort  )

Sounds obvious but be careful. If there is any doubt then there is no doubt.

Just think what would happen if you got it stuck. I managed to get my Nissan Patrol stuck a while back and you would not believe how hard it was to get it out. It was in about 3 feet of mud. Had to wait a couple of days for the mud to dry out a bit to try and tow it out.

Thank god for JCBs.

Hi

Would like to ask Scouter 2 if he thinks that the aluminum sump and tail guards on his Scout would 1/ fit our Octy Amb 4x4 estate ? 2/ would they do the job of stone protect protection .

We had NO type of guard supplied when car was bought new. We are not as high off the ground as the Scout, but would that matter, or would it give drag on the high motorway driving we do ??

Even ATV's get stuck so be carefull.

Have a look at the Green Lane Association for any local routes and maybe buy 4x4 mag who quite often do write ups on off road tracks that can be completed by "soft roaders".

And remember, just cos its raised and has AWD it lacks low range and decent tyres so dont go out of your depth.

The MKII 4x4 Octy should have increased sump/transmission guards as standard, according to Skoda.co.uk. Didnt look underneath mine, so I cant say if they are there. They would contribute to drag, even if its only through the extra weight you'd be carrying.

Hi Carn !!!! ours was bought new here in Croatia, and no sump guards were on the car. We have been on the odd track and in snow of course, but are thinking of some mountain passes nr the coast. These are used by on and off roaders, but maybe it would be prudent to fit some ?? what do you think ?? Also carrying 30klo dog and two adults .
