Ford And Jaguar

Featured Replies

I think it would be highly appropriate.

Oh dear.

Will certainly be interesting to see how Land Rover and Jag progress over the coming years!

being sold to Tata:

would it be inappropriate to say "Oh deary, deary me" ?

In the style of Apu? Very inappropriate.

C'mon,we've made a balls up of Jaguar for years, the yanks have been pretty poor too, why not give the Indians a go? Best of luck to them I say :)

Lets hope we get more British design and fewer Ford parts bin/Aston rip-offs

I was thinking more in terms of the guy from Bertha, rather than Apu.

Class, one of your finest funnies sir.

Oh dear...

nothing constructive?

They might get cheaper?

Weren't Fiat supposed to be interested ?

I don't see the problem personally. Tata seem to have made a success of most of the other companies they own, including a luxury hotel chain, so why not Jag and LR?

They've also agreed to follow Ford's business plan for the next 5 years and not change too much. I'd definitely be worried if a gang of British investors had bought them up, after what happened to Rover...

A few months ago I posted details of the Tata "Peoples' Car" which they have launched in India - http://briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/new-car-less-than-1-300-a/98553/.

Any company that can market a new car that sells for less than £1300 is pretty impressive in my book. It must have taken a lot of development and effort.

Applying similar thought processes to Jag and Landrover can only be a good thing IMHO

lol, :grouphug: I didn't mean you personally, just some more opinions.

Except that they cant actually build it for less than £5000 so if they do sell for £1300 they will be making an impressive loss!

My next car was due to be an XF but i'll have to think very carefully before I buy one now, in particular i'd be worried about any cost cutting measures to either the vehicle, the dealers, or the warranty. all of which is currently brilliant on Jags.

In india is is always buyer beware when you purchase goods. On that basis I think I'd be staying well clear for a while to see how it pans out.

Not that I was ever going to buy a landy of Jag in the near future.

Products that don't compete at a price that's as high or higher than the competition?

I'm thinking we'll be seeing another Rover pretty soon...

Obviously not driven any Jags recently then!

I've got an X-type 2.0D sport and a couple of S-type 2.7d's and they are fantastic, very well built, reliable, fantastic warranty and dealer service and well worth the money, lets hope Tata dont f*$k it up!

I drove a 2.0D X-Type not 24 hours ago! Go have a go in the Audi and BMW equivalents & you'll see what I mean.

I have both Audi's and BMW's as well, I cant knock them either, no real problems with either, except the Audi's share a few common VAG faults with Skoda which is a total joke, but then the Audi dealers are about as good as dealers get.

The Jags compare very well with both, and are actually cheaper once you spec the Audi and BMW up to the same level, so yes I do believe the Jags are good value.
