312mm Brake upgrade

So a quick update.

I've put about 6000 miles on the car since these have been fitted and they are still doing really well.

Pad and disc wear is very low, they don't seem to dust up anywhere near as much as the OEM either.

I'm pleased to report that there are no issues from cold with the EBC redstuff ceramic V3, as I drove them during the recent cold weather and snow. In these conditions they are at least as good as the OEM items.

They also still work much better than OEM in the rain and warm/dry conditions.

Additionally the slight squeal at very low speeds, is no longer there 99.9% of the time.

Very pleased with the pads :)

  • ok according to skoda they are: Front brakes: Disc brakes, with hollow discs, internal cooling and single-piston floating calliper. Rear brakes Disc brakes with full discs and single-piston floating

  • I promise you I'm not wrong! :P Your rears are 255x10, the vRS is 286x12, and the calipers and pads are different too.

upgrade on 312 over 288  usefull idea.

I personally will chose Sandtler Type S discs & EBC redstuff on my first change.

I'm just wondering what happens to the dust shields behind the disc do I need to replace them as weel. As I can see now they fit very well the original 288 discs and there is no much space to allow the increased 312 disc to fit.

I also wonder have you checked the ABT equpment available for Skoda. Looks like they have some braking upgrades available but my regional ABT dealer was not able to expain me good enough.

On the ABT web site I found only 345 mm discs for Octavia :thumbdwn: but looks like I have change wheels to "18 to fit (current "16) don't think "18 will work better for this type of vehicle.

the 312mm fits under the 16" wheels and I have not modified the splash guards in any way at all.

I'd say it is a good upgrade if you want to stay with 16" wheels :)

Looks like I'm not working with these icons correctly.

Thanks mate! :) x100

I'll do this on my first change for sure

Not a problem.

I'd start looking out for calliper carriers at breakers now as I had to buy mine new as I couldn't find any.

Even new they are not that expensive and cheaper than swapping the OEM discs for some groovy ones.

Do let us know how you get on with your car.

With the front discs so far so good, what about rear discs.

I can see that Octy vRS is fitted with 286mm solids and 2.0 TDI PD140 should be some 255 or 260's.

Does anyone has upgraded so far to confirm that 286 will fit into the splash guards on rear.

I don't think it's a good idea to overlook the rear brakes as this is where the car stability under severe braking is counting.

cheezemonkhai ? any ideas

I'm not sure I understand you correctly but if you are looking for a complete braking solution with new calipers check this out:

Audi- VW- Skoda- Seat - Tuning, Chiptuning - ABT Sportsline GmbH

this is the main site, I'm sure you'll be able to find your local dealer. Unfortunatelly the cost of the total braking system looks like EUR 1,500.00 at least in my country

I left the rears standard. If you want you could just pain the callipers. So far I think the car doesn't need the 286mm rears. That plus you need to change a few parts including the callipers at the rear.

I've done some very hard stops in mine and the rear hasn't jumped out on me.

If you do get along with it though I'd be interested to see what parts you do change.

Regarding the parts for the upgrade you find them on post 1, but basically you can reuse your existing pads and your callipers. All you need are the carriers which hold the calliper to the hub, to make the callipers sit out far enough for 312mm discs and a new set of 312mm discs. That will come in a lot less than Eu 1500.

My point about a breakers was that you may be able to get the carriers for next to nothing £25 ish against the cost of a new one.

Would you have a part number or photo of the carriers please? TIA.

The ultimate upgrade for octII shall be the 6-piston forged aluminium caliper kit made by VW R-line sports department. This disc is composite 330mm and would fit in 17" rim, only weight about 6.5kg, while the R32 345mm would weight above 13kg. I am in China and the price is reasonable here. Check the details:

?????Racing???????????_VWPark.com????_????

Looks interesting, but I'd be apprehensive about buying Chinese brakes.Safety first.:):):)

But these are genuine items developed by a VW owned development company are they not?!

So who are they when they are at home?

From a google search:

This is the MK IV carriers, but the MK 5 ones look the same.

8NO615125.jpg

Vagparts sell them for the mkV GTI which is what I used.

IIRC there are details early on in this thread.

Regarding the previous poster using their first post to advertise Chinese callipers, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. They might be the real deal, or they might be cheap knock offs.

To be fair China has a reputation for creating cheap copies and would you really take the chance with you life on the brakes? I sure wouldn't.

I al looking to upgrade my brakes to 312mm like yours but I will go for oem parts

The discs are the 312mm discs for the Golf MK V GTI or the Octy MK II VRS.

Pads are the same part number as the ones you already have.

Calliper carriers are very expensive at the main dealer so I'd go and get a set from a breakers yard from the cars listed above or VAG parts.

I noticed Joliery are on here and they might wish to quote you on the correct parts if you drop them a message.

does any one know if its possible to upgrade the 312mm vRS brakes to the 345mm on the S3 with out having to buy something like JKM big brake upgrade kit or does the S3 use a completely different calliper?

S3 caliper is the same as the R32 caliper Dan.

so does that mean its simply a case of buying bigger discs and calliper carriers to upgrade to 345mm brakes?

and the calipers, splash shields and possibly hoses.

If you look at the JKM website you'll see they offer a full kit which includes verything you need.

Damn, I was hoping there was a cheaper option than that, then again compared to some of the offerings from the likes of brembo I suppose it is the cheaper option

Looks like we have found two sets of good pads for the front of the Octy 2 with the ATE 288mm/312mm set up.

- EBC redstuff at about £70 a set delivered.

- Ferodo DS2500 at about £130 a set delivered.

So far so good

Thanks for the info on EBC pads. I'll end up buying them :)

For the front brakes would these 312mm calipers and carriers fit? Volkswagen Sharan 2000+ All Models - Front Brakes about 2/3rds the way down the page, for the Sharan.

Cheers

they are calipers. I think you can retain your caliper but need a new carrier.
