Is it me or is it a bit 'skittish' ?

Featured Replies

Rear nearside feels a bit 'skittish' when you go over a bump in the Octy Vrs Tdi Estate, tyres all ok and pressures too,any ideas?

Thanks as always

Suprised you can narrow it down to a side....

Mine was a bit skittish. Fitted Koni FSDs. Not skittish now :)

Spacers should help too :)

Wher you loaded up at the time?

Chris

Ive shared this same view in previous posts. Mine is running on standard dampers and eibach lowering springs (all done by the dealer pre PDI) and ive had mine step out a few times on me.

When I drive round a local big roundabout 'with spirit' the rear steps out when it hits the tarmac join.

To me the statndard car is underdamped and the lowering springs just emphasise this.

I drove Makefish's car fitted with Eibach springs and FSD dampers and it was a whole different ball game - solidly planted and very communicative as to what was going on with the tyres and body.

Its something I will look at doing one day.

Would the FSD's alone sort this out as I get the same as the OP. Dont want to get the car lowered at all, but like the idea of the FSD's

YES; I have FSDs and OE springs and they work a treat.

Just had a good 4 hour 'brisk' drive this afternoon and the car fells more planted and stable the harder you push it, particularly on long fast sweeping bends with uneven tarmac. Neuspeed rear ARB helps with the TDI's understeer as well. :D

Happy to meet up (with anyone) and demonstrate!

PS> Sorry Tommo but just checked where you are; Glenrothes seems a bit far for a demo. ;)

If you are then looking for an ARB upgrade here is a table of specs that I put together for a post about six months ago;-

Update ARB list:-

Octy vRS OEM - Front 23mm, Rear 22mm

H & R 1 (Golf V) - Front 26mm, Rear 22mm (adjustable)

Eibach (Golf V) - Front 26mm, Rear 23mm

Neuspeed (Golf V) - Front 25mm, Rear 25mm (adjustable)

H & R 2 (Golk V) - Front 28mm, Rear 24mm (adjustable)

IIRC the Neuspeed bars are the most expensive, although not by to much of a margin but, most importantly, you can buy them individually (others are all sold in pairs).

For me I just wanted to tweak the balance of the handling without making it too stiff; a rear arb only was just the trick (neuspeed's is the thickest as it happens). I have it on the stiffest of three settings that is great in the dry although in the wet there is just the merest hint of the rear going out with oversteer; I feel I ought to put it on the mid setting for a better balance.

Bought mine from Awesome GTI and if you get onto Neuspeed's website your find a .pdf of fitting instructions (which are really quite straightforward) takes maybe 20 mins max. with the car up on a ramp/hoist.

Very informative ta!

I did the suspension, front and rear ARBs on my ibiza, so shouln't be too difficult.

I'm going to sort the spacers first though.

Cheers

Awesome GTI, JKM Performance, or Demon Tweeks.

I suggest you make your own enquiries on price due to shipping out of UK.
