Do people sacrifice wet weather performance when tuning?

I question that sprung to mind on saturday in the ****ing down rain at a trackday in Blyton.

As usually in the dry weather I found myself letting the faster cars pass but in the afternoon however in wet condition I found the tables had turned alot. :D

Now the only mods I have is a jabba rear arb, 312mm and ferodo ds2500 all round minus some rear seats and spare wheel so far from a hot hatch.

So do the like of coilovers, lsd have a negative effect in the wet?

This was my first wet trackday and hoping its not my last :D

I'm guessing that most of the speed in the wet is down to drivers not wanting to push their cars - maybe you have more confidence in your car or bigger balls? ;):D

I dont push it in the wet, no point, I dont find it enjoyable due to spray etc

Ah, Scoobies are a different kettle of fish as people think with 4 wheel drive they have devastating performance in all weather conditions. Sadly they can bite when you realise they don't :o

Well how does that work then if its 4wd you can always drive it flat out no matter what the weather is cant you ;)

Well you can ;) The problem is when you are driving it flat out and decide you're going a bit fast into a bend and lift off. One of the cars I've driven where keeping your foot down is the solution to most situations of a "bit of trouble" :rofl:

I was there for this and the car was a right state after. I also lost count of all the people who said "Bit of T-cut will get that out"

If the diff is torqued up quite a bit (less slipping) then quite the opposite.

Some of them think so yes, & they would be the ones taking the dented cars home. :rofl:

The only problem with 4wd is you are traveling 30mph faster than a fwd/rwd car when they eventually do let go. :eek:

Both mine and the ka were absolutly poo in the wet, mine just span up with the slightest touch of the go peddle and the ka because the rear was so light just span on every corner :(

I think the mad man Gary enjoyed the wet. :P

ps Sorry bout the diesel spillage, mental note to self bring a FUNNEL next time ;)

Ka's are tremendous in the wet, as long as you never lift.

I love my car in the wet. Initial traction is poor, very poor due to no diff, but once it's going, it's great. Tyre choice is crucial in wet weather too. Maybe some of the slower cars in the wet had semi slicks on?

Ar yes but have you ever been in a ka like this

If the rear is that light, you want to keep as much weight over it was possible (by not lifting off the throttle :P)

Like Chris says. FWD, SWB + lift = spin. Not bothered what the Ka is like tbh. If driven too fast into a bend, it will be ****e in the wet. If you lift - it will spin. If you go through at the correct speed, it will probably leave most things in it's wake.
