2 new tyres for Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

I've had excellent service from Event Tyres.

Recently bought two Toyo Proxes TR1 for Fabia VRS.

Paid £175 fully fitted, the lot.

Came and did it at my place of work so no hassle for me at all.

Have used them before and will be doing so again.

I just fitted perelli P-Zero Nero's, Good tyres, but will get some T1-R's next.

I did this the other day. Changed all tyres to toyo 215/40s. Were £10 a tyre cheaper. Can't say i've noticed any real difference but haven't had the opportunity to drive them in a spirited fashion yet!

Only problem was that the tyre fitter said they were very tight to get on. So tight that he damaged two of the alloys. Not impressed

Has anyone else had problems with fitting 215/40s on std 16s ?

Sounds like a good idea but don't want to do it if the 215/40 is ment for a wider alloy.

I had 4 sets on mine, no problems here.

Just fitted some uniroyal rainsports, and i have to say there bloody cracking, the best all round tire i have ever used and i've had most.

Far superiour to the Falken Ze512's i had on the front, cant believe i haven't used them before

Thanks for advice, folks! I got 2 Toyo T1-Rs from MyTyres as suggested and got them fitted by a local garage. The whole thing came to £156.85 so I am very happy!!

Could someone help me out here i was going to make a new topic but theres no point.

What is the diference in general driving style of 205/40/17 and 215/40/17 i understand that 215's are wider but i am currently running 205's and have no problems with them.

I just need four new tyres and am going to order Goodyear eagle F1's tomoro and need to know which width is better ? thanks lewis

Err, I can't comment on the size difference, but can vouch for the F1s, biiig improvement on the Contis, and look sweet too.

thanks  there a nice tyre and iv only heard good reviews from them.

can anyone shed any light for me as to 205/215 ? thanks

205/40/17 vs 215/40/17

215s wider and lower profile. Slightly harder ride. Slightly better grip.

205s errrr... the opposite. :D

You'll probably notice an increase in fuel consumption running 215s. More rolling resistance means more force required to turn them...

Steve

Can't say I've noticed much of a difference but now you mention it i think it has reduced by a couple of mpg.

I noticed quite a big drop when I went from OEM to Octy Spiders running 215/40/17. Was circa 5 mpg along a typical route. Could also have been the effect of four new tyres too, as they produce more rolling resistance than a scrubbed in set.

I've gone for 205/40/17 for my summer wheels - will have to see what the difference is. I've deliberately kept my wheel choice around something as close to the weight of the std 16" wheel too (9Kg, give or take).

Just what iv gone for  spoke to both tyre dealers and both said the same thing......205/40/17 are best for my alloys.

so i have four yoko parada's waiting for me for £200 :D bargin ! i wanted eagle F1's but they were going to be £340 for four :( from both places !

F1s are good, no doubt - I like them a lot. But it's very difficult to justify that price jump, compared with some very competent other options...

Steve

/\/\ exactly and when there is £35 diference between a tyre.

i know the lad i got them off and he runs them on his 349 bhp seat ibiza  and says there far the best for grip/price

Just been reading this thread.

I was about to purchase 2 new T1-R's for my Fabia.

But notice mine is on 195/45 all round.

How come everyone else says 205/45 is standard ??

Edited to say -

Ignore me, i was wrong. :o

Because 205/45's are standard!

215 is really beyond the recommended fitment for a 6.5'' rim if you look at the tyre manufacturers recommendations, so 195/45 is the direction to go if you want a cheaper combination

If the tyre tests are studied on Mytyres then Michelin Pilots are simply the best tyre in all respects. I've bought some secondhand ones to try, and the wear rate suggests that they are actually not that expensive if you are going to keep the car for some length of time.

T1Rs are confirmed to be a decent compromise although the two sets I had wore out very quickly even under sensible cruise control motorway use

Fulda Carats appear to be the worlds best kept secret. As cheap as all the economy tyres but only consistently beaten by Michelins across the range of measured parameters

Just fitted some uniroyal rainsports, and i have to say there bloody cracking, the best all round tire i have ever used and i've had most.

You ain't tried Eagle F1's then!!??

I had both on my Golf, Uniroyals were good in both wet and dry. Good tyres. However the F1 GSD3s were better in the dry and just as good in the wet.

Then moved on to Dunlop SP9000's on a recommendation- what a load of rubbish! Fine in the dry, ok in the wet but in damp conditions they were downright dangerous!

I now have Falken 452's on the BMW and they are excellent. Struggled to get F1 GSD3s in my size (255/32/18) when I was looking as they were replacing them with F1 Assymetrics which hadn't been released in my size yet. Went for the Falkens after recommendations on BMW forums.

I'd say they are 95% of the performance of F1s for 70% of the price.

(note you must get 452's- 512s are reportedly nowhere near as good)

About to get 4 new tyres fitted and having read this thread am a bit more confused than before.

I have the standard issue VRS alloys and currently have the conti 205/45 R16 tyres (15,500 miles).

I was looking at either the

Falken FK452 215/40 R16 - £56.20 each

or

Toyo T1R 215/40 R16 - £54.70 each

Toyo T1R 205/45 R16 - £69.00 each

Someone has had a problem getting the 215/40 fitted on the standard alloys, and someone else mentioned they're not reccomended for the standard alloys by tyre manufacturers.

Which would be the best option to go for?

Does fitting the 215/40 affect the insurance in any way and do they need to be informed?

Thanks
