Octy vRS Newbie

Featured Replies

Hello all - not quite my first post but I thought I should still drop in and say hi!

I've had my 2001 Black Magic Octavia vRS for a few weeks now and after finally managing to sell my scooby I'm starting to enjoy the Octy rather than worry about the combined running costs of the two cars.

Generally I'm loving the car but I thought I'd offer a wee summary of my vRS ownership experience so far:

positives -

Car feels quick for standard (looking forward to a remap when my warranty's up though  )

Build quality is impressive inside and out

Roomy inside (as much boot space as my scooby estate)

Nice noise from the engine/turbo when accelerating hard

Decent handling out of the box (mines on 16s as well!)

Brakes feel pretty powerful

Fuel economy nearly double my scoobs

Briskoda is a great resource and seems to have a good community feel about it

negatives -

Rear visibility seemed unexpectedly poor til i clocked the rake of the rear screen

Car stumbles in 2nd gear when cold despite having a coil pack replaced.

Have a weird squeak/creak from the suspension/wheel area which is doing my head in

Car seems to run out of puff a bit at the top end

I can't seem to stop the drivers seat shiny material from bunching up and I think the base is fraying a bit :(

My local delear is not inspiring confidence either as they hadn't heard about the coil recall and when I got a check engine and two fault codes they just cleared them down and told me they 'weren't clear' and to just keep an eye for it happening again.

So it hasn't been a complete bed of roses so far but I intend to keep this car for a good while and I'm confident I'll get to like it more and more and above all else I'm convinced that I made the right choice when I chose this to replace my Sti

Anyway I reckon I've used my quota of smilies so I'll leave it at that! Hope to be speaking to you all regularly - cheers for now

Steve

hi steve, also had my silver 02 octy rs for a few weeks now, saved for a year to buy it and boy was it worth, took it to snetterton today to watch the cars, it must have liked it coz we came home like we had an afterburner fitted.

At last 2 new members with Octy vRS's.

Suspension noise is proberbly a worn roll bar bush or cv joint.

The topend puff is soon fixed by the remap.

Assuming your car is still under warranty get the seat cover replaced.

You soon get used the rear visibiltly thing, can be improved slightly by increasing the height of the drivers seat (assuming your not to tall).

Welcome and it's always a pleasure for new Octy vRS guys to show themselves :D

Indeed it is, welcome sman.

Welcome sman and stylish, you picked the right vRS!:D

Hi and Welcome!

Congratualtions on your good choice of car.......was beginning to wonder that we were becomng a forum for the shopping trolleys. ;)

Manny's pretty much covered your issue....however...the cold starting roughness may not be the coil pack. All 1.8Ts are rough on cold start up while the VVT is sorting itself out......wait until the engine is warm and idling around 800-1krpm.

Cheers.

Adrian.

cheers for the welcome and the advice folks!

I've just got back from collecting the car from the dealer ...not such great news :( The squeaking suspension is down to two problems:

1 damaged front subframe - which will need replaced but won't be under warranty

2 broken exhaust centre section which will also need replaced and may come under warranty

Looking at 400 quid to repair apparently...bit scunnered about it!

On the engine side of things they say there is nothing wrong...a fault code was stored relating to the MAF but a voltage test revealed all was well so they've said just to keep an eye on it for now. In a way I'm glad since I thought the squeaky suspension would be a loose arb or similar but just my bleddin luck

ho hum

cheers again

steve

did you buy it from the dealer?

if so, and it is not up to a satifactory standard, you can ask for a replacement... i can't remeber what the time limit is.

ref subframe - how badly damaged i bent mine 8mths ago and they will bend back;)

so buy a milltek exhaust not a std one and at least you will see some benefit!

cheers again guys:

ffelan - extent of damage? dunno mate...the only thing I'd noticed previously was that the plastic undertray had been damaged. The dealers word is all I have that its bad enough to need replaced (although my scepticism may result in me getting a second opinion as I cannot work out how it happened)

exhaust-wise - well if theyre giving us it for free under warranty I'll take it for now but I hear what youre saying.

exFiesta - unfortunately I bought the car private so that doesn't apply :(

shame :(

maybe they hit a random box on the motorway, like me? although i seem to have got away quite lightly:)

Welcome to the site :wavey:

It is nice to see some new Octy RS owners popping up, and ex-scoob owners to boot :D

Think your problems have been answered (I hope).

Where are you based, roughly? There may be better dealers that the members on here know of, that you could try.
