Where to put extra sockets and phone holder?

Featured Replies

The Octavia II has few (if any) flat surfaces to attach a quad 12v socket block and also a phone holder. I use the phone for MP3 so didnt want it on top of the dash but near the aux input socket. Also I didnt want to permanently damge the dash itself either.

Anyway, I bought a work shop manual from ebay and then found out how to remove transmission tunnel cover sides. I then wired the 12v block to the cig lighter socket , added a in-line fuse and fixed it to the left tunnel side with a small plinth to raise the sockets slightly.

Regarding the phone, I discoverd that a black plastic spray can top fits the round holes in the centre console and then gives a flat surface to mount hter holder. A small piece of sticky foam stops vibrations. It can be removed as necessary.

I love messing about with things like this and I thought Id share it with you all since my family just s****** or shake their heads.:o

That's spooky - I've been searching for info on exactly this subject (with little joy) all afternoon. I'm thinking of installing one of these Maplin > Twin 12Vdc Sockets with two USB Ports but I have no idea how I'm going to do it. Why don't Skoda fit a power socket where it'll be of some use?

Nice job!

Jules59, how did you get to the wiring for the ciggy lighter?

And what seller did you get the workshop manual from?

I got a 4 way socket from maplin and atached the bracket plate on the side of pasenger footwell. works quite well.

Chris

I did the same thing on my old Octy II, stuck the 4 way adaptor on the side of the centre console/footwell, there is sufficient space behind the trim to run wires.

The twin USB ports look quite handy for the iPod and Jawbone

Jules, how did you removw the side covers? they run fom the front of the footwell to the backs of the front seats!!!!

Best way to get to the inside of them is to remove the ashtray insert, the ashtray holder and the gearstick surround.

After taking the left tunnel side off (you need to take the central ashtray out first and remove a screw for the side inside there, as well as the one in the footwell) I could then reach the wires to the base of the ciggy lighter and just added some scotch connectors and an in-line fuse.

Manual came on CD from

eBay UK Shop - K S CAR REPAIR-MANUALS-CAR VAN-OLD NEW: VAUXHALL-1994-2007, FORD-ALL MODELS

A liitle time consuming to install but works fine - just read the installation instructions several times first.

Yep you got it.

Remove gearstick surround, then ashtray insert, then 2 screws to remove ashtray holder. Inside is a screw for the side and a plastic gripper thing which simply pulls apart. There is a screw in the footwell to remove. Slide the side forward to release the two guided clips which locate it to the central console, at the same the rear part disengages from the cubby box central section and the whole side then comes off.

See the diagram on this thread.

i have a four way plug same as you that sits in the rectangle slot at side of hand brake but behind the cup holder, all wires can come out of it and run at the side of the seat and is out of the way.

Looks much tidier than mine that I did a while ago.....

halfrauds special i see there :P

Some nice looking work there people. Very tempting idea. Also one in the boot would be handy for the 12v cool box I have.

i have the same thing, only set into the rh side door pillar, under the alarm off button, with the wires cable-tied under the seat to allow me and SWMBO to change seat positions without crimping...

this lets me run the satnav along under the doortrim, up past the bonnet pull, and up to the dash so Tomtom sits in the corner., and use the keep the phone charger in door....

The VRS estate already has a 12v socket in the boot , which is very useful.

You're too kind, but I'm afraid flattery will get you everywhere.:D

how about making a lead to run to the boot, a cigarette lead and 6 metres of wire from maplins or similar place. get a female cigarette socket too and it could also be used when camping to run a portable kettle inside the tent. if not stick the wire in the boot, run it under the floor through the side part of the seat, under the door skuttle area till you get to front seat and between the carpet and up into cigarette lighter socket.

wouldnt take too long and a cheap project.
