power loss 1.9... who knows the problem

Featured Replies

Hmmm...guess I need to get it onto VAG-COM and find out what is going on. I tried unplugging the MAF, but this didn't make any difference. I know that when my MAF went last time, unplugging it made a big difference, so I'm sure it's not that. The power came back for a while yesterday, but I got up to about 50 mph in 3rd, and the power cut back suddenly...guess this is a symptom of the vanes sticking, the overboost being sensed and the ECU taking the power down?

Very probably.

At the weekend was under the bonnet to top up washer and change blown sidelight bulb, and thought why not have a potter and see if I can find anything wrong, so did the following:

- Took off engine cover and had a look, nothing obvious amiss.

- Removed air filter cover (nice clean filter) and refitted.

- Removed MAF, quick wipe (its a Pierburg, not a Bosch), and replace

- Tube from air filter after MAF removed and repositioned (sorry don't know what it's called).

Well, something's changed - the car now has all it's lost power back, accelerates smoothly and I can overtake again :)...not sure what it was though. when I wiped the MAF quickly with my finger there was a bit of grime, but not much. If the air filter cover or the tube after the MAF weren't on properly, would that cause a problem? Anyway, I've been grinning again as I drive - shame diesel is so expensive now, or I'd be out for a blast every night!

I think the tube must have been inducing an air leak, and refitting it has sealed it properly.

That's what I thought - I keep thinking maybe I should check the bits again, but don't want to disturb whatever is working now, as I'm enjoying driving the car again with its restored ooomph!:)

hi all, I took my car in last month for a reconditioned turbo fitted, off a company called turbo uk. it cost 240 all in for the turbo and £270inc VAT for the garage to fit. since the problem was there when i bought it, It's like a new car now, havent had any probs what-so-ever( fingers crossed) so it was the turbo after all.
