I picked up my 3rd hand MX5 yesterday, and what a revelation..

I had forgotten how pleasant driving can be.

The Mad Wife drove it down from Hartlepool at a sedate pace, but today I gave it a blast ( in the snow...) around some favourite local country roads.

Tha Fabia truly is poo by comparison ( and slow.)

Pics will follow, when I have time.

And yes, I did have the roof down in the snow/sleet/rain ( but I did wear a hat:D)

Nice one.

Hope you enjoy it;)

Joined as a forum member for the time being.

I need to sort out the dodgily chromed interior ( it looks shocking on close inspection:()

but the first job will be a new ss exhaust, and, of course, an induction kit....

I was supposed to be spending my spare money on the fabia, but.....

Glad you like it mate

Happy New car Graham!

What engine do you have in your one Graham?

I'm looking at going down that sort of route now I've sold the Fabia and purchased a Mk3 Mondeo. The plan is to have something 'boring' like the Mondeo for the bike / load carrying and then get something that is purely for fun. Dreamland says Audi TT or a Nissan 350z but reality dictates that I could get my hands on an MX5 a lot sooner!

I just don't know anything about them at this stage and would want to make sure it was a good one seeing as it's purely for weekend fun!

Are you now Mr Happy?:D

One of the motoring worlds greatest achievements and definate future classic

Enjoy proper motoring again and glad you had the roof off:thumbup:

When I had my MR2 there was loads of roof down driving in the stupidist of weather.

Enjoy

Always makes me laugh that... middle age men you see driving round with full winter atire on in their convertibles! hehe

Glad you're enjoying it... got my eye on one myself but don't think i can warrant it at the moment.

A friend of mind has just bought an orangy/gold one and she loves it!

Congrats Mr Grumpy - and welcome to the fold. It sounds like your spec should be similar to mine as they are only a year apart but get some piccies up so we can hve a look!

There are so many MX5 owners on here, I cant even dare to call you a hairdresser. :D

Enjoy it mate, I hope this summer brings some sunshine to otherwise grim Cleckhuddersfax.

It would be great, but the exhaust fell off this morning...

( I thought it was blowing a bit:O )

Never mind, it was the original one, so it's done well, but it's emptied my fabia modding fund, to the tune of £300

£300 - was it an IL Motorsports stainless steel free flowing sports one by any chance?

Unfortunately no. The cat. was goosed as well, I suppose it was because it's only done summer miles in its 12 years. and condensation has sat in the pipes. Poo:(

SO is it a standard one or a stainless jobby?

I'm curious about a very early one of these for a track day car

Standard cat. back box and chrome tail pipe.

Kwik-Sh!t quoted me £340, but a mate of mine works in the loca Hi-Q and charged me £300.

I was going to fit a stainless back box ( approx £350 for a good one ) but when he said the cat. was badly corroded, I went for the sensible option, shame really.

Oops - Timax replacements with stainless tips are usually about £95 and a cat from SFT is about £110. Plus fitting and your about OK with what you've paid (maybe a bit high).

I replaced the exhaust on mine with the IL one mentioned above a few years ago thinking it was the exhaust that was rattling - turned out to be the Cat. But with a nice 2.25 piping a BIG tip a freeflow cat and an induction kit it now sounds glorious on full throttle so more than happy.

Bloody hell yeah - only just noticed that now you've mentioned it - Back box ONLY?

My £350 quid stainless sports system was a full cat back system! and cheaper non-sports systems can now be bougt for about £175.

Mr Grumpy - please tell me you haven;t been fleeced already...

No lol, I was looking at a fancy twin exit thingy from MX5 parts website:O

I think the back box is £110. & the cat & fitting & any other bits comes to £300 ( with a 3 yr warranty )

I wasn't there when the wife took it in.

At least I know now , when I have some more spare cash, I can put an ss backbox on, and not have to worry about the cat.

As it is officially the wifes car, I can't really modify it, as it is her insurance policy, and it's high enough as it is:mad:
