starting problems - FABIA 1.2 2006

Featured Replies

Hi all. I need help!

I own a Skoda Fabia, petrol 1.2 engine, newly purchased in 2006.

This car never gave me problems and am happy with it. I parked it in my garage and for some reason, the engine now fails to start. When I turn the ignition key, I can only hear the fuel pump working and the starting motor (or self-starter) fails to work. Basically, I cannot use the car and not even to take it to the Skoda workshop for checkup and repair! Plus, my garage is located at the first floor and cannot be accessed by towing trucks. I am also reluctant to move the car and try to start it (while geared) down by the garage ramp since the common garage access is very narrow.

I have checked the battery and fuses - they all work fine. I have also checked the engine and there are no loose wires.

Can someone kindly help me? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Briskoda. :) I have moved your thread to the Fabia forum where it should attract more attention.

Sounds like the starter motor has failed.

No doubt some of the more techy minded users here will jump in soon enough.

Hope you manage to get it sorted cheaply ...

Welcome to Briskoda. :) I have moved your thread to the Fabia forum where it should attract more attention.

I put the following info on the Welcome Page before I realised you had been moved!

If your car is less than 3 years old it should be covered by the free Skoda Assistance (usually the RAC come out). Again, if it's something like the starter motor, then you should be covered by the warranty.

The number for Skoda Assist is 0800 5266 25

Hope that helps

yes but namuk has stated that his Garage is on a First floor and recovery vehicles cannot access it.

Try calling skoda assist as westerdam2 has suggested but inform them of your vehicles location, mabe they can send a smaller van out (Like a Vaxuhall Combo) to take a look

thanks guys!

phoning the skoda guys they advised me to check the solenoid, and discovered that a thin wire was actually disconnected from the solenoid of the starter motor... was happy to see that it is not a big thing to repair... thing is that i cannot reconnect the wire back to its 'clip' which is attached on the solenoid. It has a strange and complicated red plastic slider which i spent 3 hrs trying to get it out to be able to solder the wire back again to this clip. but i didnt manage. i have an image of it but cant attach it to this tread. perhaps i can send it to anyone interested via email - my email is [email protected]

THANKS A MILLION for your support :) its a nice community!
