Radar detector.

Am not going over board as don't try to speed, but now I don't have the cruise control of the L&K it seems necessary. Anyway, have decided to get the Snooper 715si. Hopefully will be adequate. Will post a review once I have given it a go.

Damo

Looks good value for money.

Does it pick up the SPECS average speed cameras?

Rob.

radar detectors will *not* pick up the specs cameras as they do not emit radar! (afaik)

the GPS based detectors do that. so, if you want full coverage, get a combination or the snooper s6r (varying reports so far). i think jon has a combination set up?

Or a Road Angel. :D

Except the laser detector seems really rather sensitive.

Rob.

The road angel is by far the best detector on the market, but at a price. Now that legally the cameras have to be in yellow jackets it is very easy to spot them, especially when you have a "co-pilot" on hand. Keep you're eyes open and you'll be fine.

Hmm...is there some kind of deadline for councils/police to have

their cameras yellow?

There's a couple on the A62 into Oldham that are actually painted

the same black as all the lampposts, etc. Tricky to spot.

Rob.

I have read in the last week or 2 that cameras do not have to be made conspicuous, contrary to the impression we were given when the Government announced that cameras would be made more visible. I think it is now up to police forces to decide their own policy on this.

yep there was a post a while back, IIRC it's a voluntary sign up for the force in any area. Also if IIRC some campaigners have decided to get the "yellow" over turned to catch more people, which I believe is now the case. TBH it's the SPECS and portable lasers that I'm now scared of, especially if they capable at night as I recently heard....I always assumed they would not be so effective due to the final image capture/glare of your plates/lights.

Ah, yes, good old Transport 2000 had the decision to get the cameras painted yellow appealled.

SPECS really are worrying, as they're hard to spot and they rely on you keeping beneath 70 for a distance. There's actually two sets on the M6 I didn't know about, I'm guessing they're not live yet though!

I haven't seen that many portable lasers recently...another problem with the detectors is that they can only see the lasergun when the gun can see you, ie. when it's too late :(

On a side note, my sister-in-law has a lasergun for her work (transport planning, so used for producing actual speed stats). She was working on a road the other week, and for the most part people were keeping to the 30 limit. Except a police officer who went past at 47, then pulled up and asked her what she was doing... :D
