Mr Grumpy is on his third and we have had no problems with any of them (even when I filled one with petrol) Oh and the one that was stolen

Check that there are no warning lights staying on on the dash , especially the 'steering' one (its a steering wheel shape) that means you either need a power steering pump or sensor. Check the carpets front and rear for stains and dampness as doors sometimes leak. Listen for clonks from the front supspension , anti roll bars , droplinks and console bushes wear out giving these noises. Bear in mind that your cambelt will be due at 4 years old , whatever the milage , and some people find that its better to change the water pump at the same time , and this job will set you back around £600. Im sure there are some other things I have forgotten , but remember to do the usual checks for crash damage and scratches , and check that everything works!

Good luck ,I hope shes a minter , and that you enjoy her!! :)

Hey i got my fab vrs in dec 2007 its on an o4 with 35k the mazda dealer has serviced and stamped the book to 44k with no mention of a timing belt, if it goes are they liable?:finger:

Check for leaking rear doors. (IE: Damp in the footwells).

Listen 4 creaks coming from front suspension... and mention any dash rattles bcoz mine has shedloads!!

Are they liable. No. Why go to a Mazda dealer if you don`t mind me asking. Whatever the reason 60,000 miles or 4 years old whichever comes first to have the belt changed.

And back on topic, look at the owner. The owner sometimes says more about the car. Don`t forget to look under the car for signs of jack misalignment, stone catches ETC. Good Luck with the purchase and enjoy. :)

I only just had my cam belt changed - I hadnt realised it was 4 years or 60k whatever sooner, Id done 57k and its nearly 7 years old  I heard a high metallic sound for a few days so took it in and they said it could have gone at any time. Cost £150 + VAT but thats on a bog standard Fabia not a VRS

I am buying it from a dealer, so looking at the seller wont help much. Going to go view it now.

Got mine a month ago mate and still grinning !!!

I was a little surprised by all the little rattles under the dash ,, but a very very very small gripe indeed.

I would def check the front tyre wear and brakes,,,, seems to be eating mine already.

Take the plunge mate,, its a fantastic car.

oh and the seats seem to fray quite easily, once again a small point which is outweighed by the first time you drive it !! You just wont care about the minor defects !!

Sorry mate but the previous owner traded it in for a mazda and it was after months of looking on the internet that i found it to be a good low mile car with one previous lady owner and as the dealer is a franchise and the car was mot d for 12 months given a 12 month warranty and serviced i just thought that they should have realised the belt needed changing
