From one VAG to another, the interior of this strange beast looks not half like the Fabia's (bar the steering wheel of course).

Volkswagen South Africa – Citi Gallery

Very interesting!

Thats more then a strange beast. How can it be cost effective to sell a brand new car in South Africa that is based on a chassis platform that must be ancient. I did not think they even made that Mk2(?) Golf Platform anymore.

Going by the dimensions... whats to say this isn't a Fabia/Polo chassis with mk1 Golf body panels on it?:)

Or is this VW's attempt as recycling?? :D

It's only available in 5 door though :( I did enquire to SA about a roof skin as I wanted rid of my sunroof but it wasnt worth it.

The gear kn0b on a Mk 5 GTI is 6 Speed, and made of high quality German Cow Leather. Unlike that crappy plastic rubbish I am seeing before my very eyes. :P

I do like the silver vent surrounds though, think they've been mentioned on here before. Would brighten up the dash a bit. Never been quite convinced by the after-market stick-on ones.

You could always pull your vents off and spray them silver. :D

I'm sure someone on here has already done that.

Aaaahhh they were great cars, here is me in 1991 getting my beloved 1.8gti off the back of a lorry after a transit pulled out on me in cumbria, broke my heart it did.
