octy to fabia and back to octy

Featured Replies

anyone gone from octavia vrs to fabia vrs and back again

I really miss my (remapped!) octavia vrs but i was doing high mileage, Ive had a fabia vrs for 6 months and thats great too but I unexplectedly bought a house within walking distance to work so a diesel is not really needed now.

so I thought about what to get instead and another octavia vrs would be ideal

Am i mad? I could remap the fabia but I feel I would be wasting the money.

Also am i allowed to post a "whats it worth" in here or elsewhere, Im a freedom, member

Buy a bicycle.... :D

Perhaps walk if it's within walking distance?

It would be cheaper to get the Fabia remapped than to change the car.

The Octy vrs is a nice car, but i've driven both and the Fabia (remapped) is more fun.

Yes mate I did exactly that!

Had Octy vRS for 4 years...started to think my fuel economy wasn't good enough for the miles I'm doing (350 p/w) and it was getting long in the tooth. Bought a Fabia vRS (remapped, big brakes etc) and after 6 months sold the Fab and went back to the Octy! To be fair the Octavia hadn't sold but looking back I think that was partly through lack of effort because I was never totally happy with the Fabia.

Don't get me wrong it had serious in gear poke and the torque was a laugh but I never got the feeling it was as solid or well built as the Octy and the interior just felt a bit too basic even though the Octy is no Bentley! It had rattles on top of rattles and it felt older than its years.

The thing was yeh the Fabia got better mpg...but not as good as I'd hoped and the performance was decent...but not as good as I hoped (1st and 2nd gears were laughable in terms of traction and gearing) and I found I drove it harder just to compensate for the fact that I missed the petrols powerband.

Not saying theyre bad cars or anything but I definitely regretted buying mine and it felt right when I went back to the Octavia. Ok I'm paying through the nose in terms of fuel and tax but hey ho lifes too short! Anyway I *can* get a reliable 35mpg out of the Octavia if I drive it gently and thats decent compared to the circa 45 (real world) mpg the Fabia was giving...then theres the price of diesel these days ;). I'd say do it - theres some bargain mk1 Octavia vRS out there...

Well I have gone and advertised it up for sale, as the previous post said after being spoilt by the octavia vrs (my prev car was a crappy megane) the fabia seems lacking, and yes feels more basic despite it costing me over 1k more than i sold my octavia for.

It would be cheaper to get the Fabia remapped than to change the car.

err I fail to see that, the remap is around £300 for a start, If i sold it at say £6k and bought an octavia for around £4.5-5k then im £1k+ up.

the fabia is good but Im not in love with it anymore so to speak

You wouldnt be the first to have done this.

Another member had a vRS, p/exd it for a Fabia and then would you believe it after a month or so managed to buy his original vRS back. After a while he sold it again and bought a superb, only to switch back to a vRS once more.
