Just had a test drive - TDi 'Tappets'

Featured Replies

Just had a test drive in a 51 plate TDi elegance estate.

The car was just what I was wanting, decent enough handling, went and stopped well, FSH well looked after etc.

My main concern is a rapping in the engine. It sounds like tappets would sound in a petrol car. I was hoping it would go when the car was warmed through but 45 mins later and car up to full temp and the noise was still there.

Should I be concerned with this, could it be a sign of someting major going amiss?

cheers

andrew

If you think its too noisy then walk away. Difficult for any of us to say on here without listening to it. Oil level ok?

Non PD diesels arent the quietest (neither are the PDs really).

my tappets are a tad noisy, can be a problem with these engines apperntly, was told some where that the tappets wear very quickly if the oil is run low.

oil level's fine, think i'll probably leave this one as they want top money for it.

the search continues.....

Mine's (78_000) a touch tappetty under load when cold and coming up to service. I've put that down to the oil thickening with age.

If that one's still tappety when hot and under load, something's not right.
