Fabia power Steering

Featured Replies

Hi,

Having touble with my power steering light. Started coming on this weekend. The fluid is fine but the manual says to refer to a dealership. The steering asistance is now reduced slightly.

I have read several othersites that say it may be a sensor and that it's nothing ignore it.

I also have this "flickering headlights" problem also.

Can anyone suggest anything for the power steering.

Cheers

Flickering headlights plus power steering issues are pretty likely to be the angle sensor issue. vRStu has a technical guide for replacing it on his website, if you're mechanically-minded...

Thanks for the information.

I am not technically minded. What sort of cost would you expect for part and labour to fit?

It all boils down to the costs in the end!!!

Sorry, can't really help there - you're best getting a quote from a garage. Make sure you tell them that you're pretty sure you know what the problem is, though, in case they try and take the "let's replace the most expensive part it might be and work backwards from there" approach, which could see you having a new rack and pump fitted before they even look at the sensor! :thumbdwn:

The fluid is located under the battery, a nice place for skoda to locate it. (NOT). If it's the steering Angle Sensor (most common) they are around the £70-80 mark to purchase and then it'll be the labour to fit. Shouldn't be a long job as it's quite straight forward to do. If it's the Pump or Rack then it can be expensive.

Someone has a couple of the sensor on ebay for around £40 at the moment.

Sorry, they're not there any more.

If the lights are flickering and you have PAS issues i'd be looking at the battery personally.

Lights flickering shouldnt have anything to do with the sensor.

Mine went the same way as yours, light came on lost power steering. There are two ways to tell whats wrong :

1) Light on, partial steering (Hydraulic feed is working, Electric assistance not)

A) Angle sensor broken, replace with new uprated one

OR

2) Light on, no power steering at all (i.e steering wheel wont turn at all)

A) Hydro/Electric Pump knackered.

Mine went on the pump, replaced both pump and angle sensor (work in the trade, so wasn't too expensive)

Really? I thought it was pretty much a dead cert due to spurious input to the pump motor or something?

Unlikely to be battery, flickering lights is a trait of early fabias. I've had two new batteries and the lights still flicker (slightly). Is the fault intermittent? If so, then I'd deffo' say the sensor.

Ross is usually right - I'm just surprised as it goes against what I thought was the accepted wisdom here on Brisky...

Hi.Thanks for all the posts. The ligts problem is not a big issue. only dims for a second and happended 3 times is say 2 months. Just thought a bettery issue which may have contributed to the power steering issue.

The lights flickering is down to the "draw" from the electric power steering - my old one had the same - the OP's description in the initial post look like the classic "steering sensor" problem, your local dealer will confirm - it cost me £145 to have it done (Warranty Dirct paid!) - all ok after!
