Pics of Scout in Satin Grey and fixed towbar

Featured Replies

Finally got some pics of my new Scout and it's fixed towbar. Actually wilkopilko has shamed me into it as he is always reminding me that I had promised them!

Hope I've done this right - used photobucket as advised on another thread. The pics show the towbar and I think it sticks out a bit far. It makes loading the boot awkward and it really is a shin-basher! It also looks a bit naff to me. I was promised a detachable replacement when it becomes available.

Also shown are a couple of images from the side/rear of the Scout. The Satin Grey works well I think.

I think it looks fine. If you bash your shins a few times you'll soon learn. Being fixed will mean defence agains clumsy drivers nudging you when parking.

Nice car. I would go for one if I could justify spending that amount of money.

I totally agree, I had a fixed one on a prevous passat estate & I have to say people seemed to be a little more cautious especially as I had a nice bright yellow tennis ball  stuck on it just to make it stand out a little more, I used to use it to gauge where a wall was simply by gently bumping into it because this was the days before parking sensors were standard fit on most VAG's.

Thanks rkenny, much appreciated!

Nice colour. I've heard all the best ones look like that ;)

I see what you mean about the bar sticking out, still a lot less obtrusive than most fixed bars. Let us know how you get on with the detachable.

Thanks Niall. To be honest I'm a little peplexed about the dealer's promise (in writing) of replacing the fixed with a detachable one. I got information from Skoda saying that the detachable bar has been available since 21st March. Despite a number of phone calls to the dealer they seem to be fobbing me off. Perhaps there are supply problems but the message from Skoda implied that the new bar is available.

The dealer has been very good so far - we have bought two cars from them in the last 8 months - and I don't want to fall out with them! However if there is a problem I hope they would be straight with me.

Certainly the tow bar I've been quoted by a south of Scotland dealer is a detachable one, so I'd suggest that they're definately available.

I have also had a quote for a detachable (£800+) one from Skoda dealer a couple of weeks ago.

Seems to stick out more than my fixed Brink. Also the electrics look even further under the car than mine, just the thing on a mucky site.

Still prefer the fixed bar myself.

Scout looks great, nice colour too.

looking good

Was going to suggest this, beaten to it

Nice car btw

I just got out my original invoice for the last Octavia ( 2001 ) and a detachable tow bar fitted with electrics was £224 by a Skoda dealer . The cost of the basic car may have been held down since , but certainly not the parts over this period of time !

We had our Westfalia detachable tow bar fitted a few weeks ago by Towbex. They came to the house and took a little under 2 hours to fit, even bringing a mat to place the bumper on so as not to cause unnecessary scratches during removal. Dead easy to remove and fit and the electrics swing up out of the way when not in use.

Worked out much cheaper than the quoted price from the Skoda dealership. I'll post a pic or 2 when I get a chance to take some.

Regards

Mark
