Mk2 vs Mk1

Featured Replies

Well, having sung the praises of my beloved Mk1 2.0i over the last few weeks, this evening some drunk smashed into it while it was parked. It looks like the rear column has folded and it may be a write-off.

I hope they can repair it. Otherwise, what would the insurance company give me for a 3 year old, 36,000 miles, single owner Mk1 2.0i? Do I go for a Mk2 or look around for something a bit more inspiring?

Sorry to see that :thumbdwn:

If you look on the bright side if there is one, The new Fabia is available with 0% finance.

Hope you get sorted soon.

My Roomy has now done 15k in the last 6 months, hasn't missed a beat and only has one rattle (This is attached to the baby in the back...)quote]

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Oh dear

Does your insurance company not like you :D

Oh noes!! Another Furby 2.0 gone!!!

Hope it all gets sorted dude.

From the photo it looks repairable.

About the discs/drums thing. on VW group cars when the Ibiza was launched in 2002 I read the brochures and any engine above 75BHP had all round discs.

Back to the mk1 mk2 debate I havent driven the Mk2.

My cousin has and he prefers his mk1.

I prefer the Mk1 cause it seems to have a more pleasant look.

One thing I have noticed is that they dont have poppy up locks on the doors anymore so you can't tell if the cars locked or not.

Euch! Someone rear ended my polo last week - I was expecting a corsa or fiesta - insurers have given me a mazda 3 sport (6-speed 150bhp ) to potter around in. Ask them for something else! :D I, like you, might be looking at a write-off so searching for something to replace it with.

I've (subject to test driving the 2nd 2 cars) narrowed it down to one of the following:

1. Fabia mk2 1.4tdi

2. Fiat Grande Punto dynamic 1.3 multijet

3. Mazda2 1.4diesel

or - i might opt for the cheaper non-financed option and find a nice mk1 1.9tdi furby! :D

I like the Fabia Mk2, although there's certain things they should have carried over from the mk1 (like the storage bins, heated seats). Suspension is an odd thing - SWMBO's 1.9 mk1 is quite soft compared to my old polo, but not that wallowy. When I drove a mk2 1.4 16v I noticed that the suspension seemed firmer over speed bumps/pot holes, but just didn't seem to hold the road as well as the mk1. Also, they haven't sorted out 1 gripe I have with the mk1 - whenever i get in the car, i almost always catch my leg on the seat height adjuster. Same thing happened with the mk2! Overall, more of a fan of the mk1 though.

One of the advantages of Skoda is this forum. I have looked around other car forums, and this one is definitely one of the best. One can find a lot of support here.

I think the Mk2 Fabia is, on balance, not as good as the Mk1. However, from looking around at the alternatives - equipment, price, quality, simplicity - it still seems to offer a good deal.

So where do I get one at short notice, if my Mk1 is a write-off? I am looking for a Fabia 3 1.6 16v in Storm Blue. I am flexible on the options.

Mazda 2 looks like a great car but isn't the diesel as slow as a milk float? I think it would be substantially down on power and torque compared to a 1.4 TDi Fabia.

If you're willing to take a Fabia 2 instead: http://briskoda.net/forums/skoda-dealer-cars-sale/skoda-fabia-2-1-6-16v-105-bhp-5-dr-hatchback/107777/

HTH! Might try getting one from them too (a diesel one).

Still have to test drive one, and I'll be comparing it to a Mazda 3 sport! :D

on the fabia 3 I drove, I noticed the vents near to the front windows had a silver plastic trim surround. this reflects on the side windows and thus "appears" to come from the wing mirrors..... rather weird. The Fabia 1 I curently have does not have this 'feature'.

Were I to go for a Mk2 Fabia, I would consider painting these silver bits matt black (apart from the door handles). I was in a Polo at the weekend, and I felt really at home in it. No naff trim bits, just plain (some say bland) black - rather like the two Mk1 Golf GTIs that I once had. It seems to me that, if one wants to brighten up the dash, one should either do it tastefully or not at all.

sorry to hear about your 2.0!!! thats 2 now:( at least you wasnt in the car at the time:)
