shot blasting wheels

Featured Replies

how much does it cost to have alloy wheels shot blasted and where can this be done?

Looking at These wheels for my Felly or am I best off waiting to see if other alloys turn up or go for 14" ones?

most places that do powder coating will also do shot blasting... last time i got some done i paid £20 for the 4 to be done

You cant shot blast alloy, you would have to have them bead blasted this can be expensive, so personaly i would wait for a set of 14s or even better a set of 15s.

You cant shot blast alloy.

yes you can:confused:

i wouldn't recommend getting them peened with steel shot, but if you just want to clean them with a fine sand then that is fine

Thought you had to have them re-laquered too?

Mine could do with...errr.. doing. lol

If you have the wheels blasted then they will have to be painted again afterwards.

i payed £15 a wheel for two stage grit blasting.

this is once with a course grit, than again with a fine grit.

and the grit is actually stick welding slag thats been crushed up. if you want them shot blasting with steel shot, you will need to fine someone with some really fine shot, and not many people use that nowadays.

I think a place I called to ask how much 13" alloy wheels would cost to be refurbed in leeds said £40 each if sent to them with tyres. I assume that includes re-fitting the tyre and balancing. When you think for a full set that's £160, it could be £160 to a set of different/better alloys.

This is the place MSS Blast Cleaning Services

There's this place Alloy Wheel Refurbishment - Refurb - Refurbishing - West Midlands with a few branches around and can give a quote online, they always have special discounts but the discounts don't make it any cheaper than the MSS place in Leeds. There might be somewhere near you if you search around - try searching google with a query like Alloy refurbishment deep space 9 forum. Replacing DS9 of course :D

I have read conflicting reports about MSS. One or two in forums saying they lost their tyres and took ages to find them and another saying they came back different shades - but there are also a number of reports of happy customers. I guess those two or three people may have been unlucky.

If they're alloy I think they're best getting a full refurb and powder coated, otherwise I imagine they'll start to look a bit cack pretty quickly.

Not being funny, but is that not sand blasting

It is not recomended to have them blasted with anything that contains anything ferrous or by anyone who uses a recycled medium as this can cause the alloy to rust , as small particles can get embedded in the alloy , and when it gets wet (if not laquered or painted) rust occurs

sand blasting is actually banned in the uk now. its all done using recycled mediums
