Electricity bills....

Featured Replies

What sized of electricity bills do people average?

There is me and a female in my house (lodger, who is current not working - so that might not help....).

Electricity wise I guess the main consumers are:

- electric oven (not used much, maybe once a week)

- electric shower

- LCD TV (current monitor suggest about 115 watts)

- Computer for a few hours in the evening

- Washing machine (heats the cold water and used 2 or 3 times a week)

I have gas central heating and hob.

Computers are turned off when not use, although I do have a NAS, 2 routers and a gigabit switch and a couple of UPS running 24/7

House is fitted with energy bulbs in all rooms apart from bedrooms, lights are generally not left on when there is no one around.

At the moment I paying about £60/month for my electricity, but some of that is to catch up on my arrears - I suspect caused by the my ex who used to sit and watch TV all day.

My measurements for the last 13 days have shown pretty much an average of 12 units per day. See http://www.matthewames.co.uk/briskoda/2008_04_electricity.htm for a detailed breakdown.

I live with my wife in a mid terrace and our electricity bill is about £75 per quater.

I worked out that we use about 5 units per day.

We are out during the day until the evening.

I have a RP television and thats about 250 Watts as there is surround sound on too.

We have energy saving light bults all over the house.

Our fridge is A rated.

The washing machine is AA rated too.

Electric oven.

Gas central heating with a gas hob.

2 Laptops, only on when we use them.

HTH,

Ben

My brother who lives by himself, and works during the day seems to be using about 6 units per day (on average) according to his last bill. I am surprised that mine is double.... :-( Maybe next door have tapped into my supply somewhere!

My fridge/freezer seems to use about 7 watts, TV is around 115 (drops to zero on my meter when in standby).

If the weather is horrible tomorrow, maybe I'll investigate a bit more.

Cheers.

I'll make you feel better. Last year I used 6800 KWh.... ~ £680. Add to that the £700 for CH oil. Makes the £17 Calor gas cylinder for my hob (about 9months/cylinder) seem quite cheap!!

Quarter is around £60 for 3 bed townhouse.

In the flat, we were on pre-pay and £20 lasted 6-8 weeks.

Now GAS, that's the killer. Our latest quarterly bill for 2 people, was £188! Surely that is too high?

EDIT must point out in the flat hot water and heating was included in service charge.

I pay £40 a month for a 2 bed flat for electricity and £35 a month for gas. Never though of looking how much I use.

Not really a direct comparison but our bills (gas and leccy) in NZ are about $200 a month (GPB 80)

3 bed house, no central heating just gas fire in lounge!

leccy oven, gas heater for hot water

Now for a 2 bed flat sounds quite high to me....

Is nice and sunny in weymouth at the moment, so I doubt I'll get a chance to to play today, but I will soon.

As mine is an old Victorian place the gas bill gets hammered as it is virtually impossible to heat! I have applied (and am now waiting for) additional cavity wall insulation and loft insulation via the government scheme which I am hoping will help. I have replaced the front single glazed sash windows with wooden double glazed units, just have the rear of the house to do when funds allow!

3 bed semi

2 adults 2 kids

Lit up like blackpool most of the time

computer running 24/7

£55pm

My house mate just told me we got a £300 electric bill in for a 4 bed house for a quarter.

If that is correct then somebody with an electric heater is going to have to make a larger contribution to the bill I think.

Anybody got a clue what the cheapy convector heaters cost to run?

get a current meter, or just look at the device and see what your supplier charge per kW/h - nPower on a duel fuel deal are around 13p/unit I think?

Get said person with the electric heater fetish a few wolly jumpers :-) I had a lodger who left a fan heater running all day when he was at work. I certainly had words with him that evening....

I had a shower last night and that equated to almost exactly 1 unit (about average lenght of time for me to be in the shower). I have left the washing machine on a 60deg C white wash this morning too.

I think from midnight through till 7.00am the house "consumed" about 1.5 units - everything was in standby.

Just had my electricity bill for 23 jan to 21st april and it was £43.95 and that was for 467 units.
