service interval reset

Featured Replies

i have a mk2 octavia vrs, can the service interval be reset manually or does it have to be done by the dealer.

I you wish to remain on variable servicing then it needs to be reset by a dealer. However dealers are under instructiion not to reset them unless a service has been carried out.

Just had my 1st service done, when pressing the button both miles & time say ---.

IIRC the service counter will be blank for a time until the computer has calculated the next service interval based on driving style. This only applies on the QG1 variable service regime.

Thanks dstev2000, why is it not reset straight away, I must admit, only done 10 miles since service done.

The service timer is calculated using several parameters from the engine sensors including oil quality and soot content.

The car needs to calculate a service interval, when the car is set on variable service it looks at things like soot quantity in the oil, oil quality and engine thermal load etc etc and from all of this data it will work out when the car needs it's next service.

This takes a little time as it needs to 'watch' how the car is driven (gently or thrashed) to determine a service interval, it can vary hugely from something like 9000 miles right up to 20,000 miles.

I can't remember off hand how long this takes, could be as much as 500 miles.

9300 to 18000 ;)

9300 to 18000 ;)

Close enough :P 16800 is the highest I've ever got.

Thanks guys, I have a diesel & would have thought they would reset to 30K miles/2 years & then it counts down, thats what vauxhall does.

Not all diesel engines are 30,000 miles, most have been brought down to 20k now.

Why have they been bought done to 20K, can they legally do this, not being difficult, just curious.

If your car left the factory with 30k interals then it should stay on that. But not all diesels do. Cars leaving the factory have been altered so that is above board.

Thanks for your help lummox.

No problems, its what im here for ;)

I thought 30,000 KILOMETERS was the theortical maximum?

:o

All this talk of leaving oil in an engine that long makes Baby Jesus cry

Bump. I have an almost 3y old, almost 40k mile old Octavia 1.6 FSI petrol manual.

Put in fresh Mobil oil yesterday and forgot I no longer have Autodata accessible to remind me the service interval reset procedure.

HELP? It's on 10k miles fixed service intervals, so no problem resetting it by hand.

Hold the trip button in and turn the ignition on, keep it help in.

Service should appear, turn to the right and it should reset.

Thanks Lummox. Note to self, turn right, don't press in again.
