N95 texting question

Featured Replies

One thing I don't like about my N95...

On SonyEricsson phones, after you've composed a text message you are presented with a list of the people you've texted most recently - so if you regularly text the same person, it's dead easy to choose their name.

On the N95 I have to go into the address book every time which is a PITA. Is there anyway to mimic the functionality of SE phones, or do I have to change all my friends names so they appear at the top of the address list?

Ta, I'll have a look at that!

Personally I find the quickest way of entering someones name is by actually typing in the first few letters of their name in the "To" box first. When I come to send it, it gives me a list of names matching those letters, or it it will just send it if there is only one match. Not quite the same as the SE, but a lot quicker than manually searching through the phone book. :)

I know by default it wants a number to be entered in the "To" box, but by holding the # key, it changes to text and it remembers that mode for next time...

Sorry if thi is thread hi-jack but I'm looking to upgrade to an N95 from an SEW850i in the next few months.

Whats everyones opinion on this phone? Does anyone have the Parrot Ck3100 fitted and have they had any pairing problems.

Thanks.

don't be so bloody lazy! You only have to type a couple of letters to find someone!

I think zooty had my problem, I didn't know about the # short cut either. I did think that having to go into my address book every time to add a recipient was ballache too

N95's are so last year*:rofl:

*May not be true

It's not lazy, it's annoying!

To the other posters, I do have the "just type their name in the To field" enabled.

But, to text my wife requires 8 key presses to uniquely get her name, then a further press to select her mobile number (rather than work no.) So 9 key presses in total. I know I could reduce this to 8 by having separate records for work / mobile etc, but even so, 8 key presses when it only takes 1 on an SE phone.

I honestly thought I must be missing something obvious, but I guess it's just a feature. The phone has got lots of gee-whizz features (which are great) but is missing obvious useability features. I found this last time I had a Nokia too. It was technically miles ahead of the Motorola I'd had previously but was missing the nice, simple touches.

Put a capital A in front of her name and she'll be higher up in the list!

If you add her to Contacts in the Multimedia menu (diamond key) then you can send a message in three clicks 1)Multimedia 2)Options 3)Send text message

? Not really short but still better than 9?

Scratch that; two clicks, centre button makes a message and green button makes a call. Saved myself valuable seconds!

Ive just got an N95, and i mean just!

From first impressions its great but imused to the tetx menu on an N73 so it aint a problem to me.

Case of getting used to it it hink if your used to another make phone.

I couldnt pick up anything else nowadays other than a Nokia...

Sounds great... but I don't seem to have the option to add Contacts to my multimedia menu - only applications, bookmarks or radio stations :(

(I have the customised 3 firmware, version v20.0.015)

I have the N95 8GB, I'm not sure how the classic N95 menu works? I know it's different though, maybe you can't add a contact?

Can't find a screenshot of the old menu anywhere on the web either, only the new version menu. Sorry :(
