honda lancaster

update.

took it to garage. told them it was the maf. so all they did was replug it in and reset the engine...

was fine for driving away from the garage but when i parked up and went back a couple of hours, it happened again. i'm going to have to ring garage up AGAIN! and tell them to replace it for me on saturday. they r friendly enough and full of praise for the car. even told me where to be careful and watch for police mobile camers when i tested it on bypass.

Sigh!!!!

oh and i did give briskoda the thumbs up!!!

I paid £70 for a new maf from Skoda about 2 months ago, just so you know :)

It needs replacing - Shouldn't have just replugged it in!

Anyway - the MAF is the Mas5 Air Flow meter. It basically reads the air coming in through your airbox, and adjusts "whatever" to make the car run properly. If the MAF goes wonky, it gets all kinds of funny readings which causes lumpy driving and eventually the car goes into limp mode to protect itself. :)

New MAF, clear fault codes in engine section 01 on vagcom - job done. :)

is it safe to drive the car around without the maf?

and do ur recon the remap might have been touched with all the repair? just doesnt seem as fast as it was before the accident.

You cannot drive permanantly without the maf, the engine will not have any info on the air entering the engine. As a stop gap it will be fine, just take it easy.

The remap should be unaffected by any repair work and bare no problem on the issues you are currently having.

It will not be as fast until the MAF has been replaced and the engine starts getting the correct signals again.

Just to verify. I had my octy go in for a full service and cam belt change. Came back with the same problem yours has. Went back in and had the MAF changed!!

works better than it ever has. They are prone to just go for no reason with no engine light. If you unplug it, your cars ecu puts it to default settings. Therefore if it runs better with it off..BINGO!! think you can pick a bosch refurb for about £60 piece of **** to fit.

another update...

wasnt the maf so skoda said.... a turbo hose collapsed into itself due to the bigger turbo suckin in more air? it never got upgraded so theyve put a modified hose in now...

ill pick it up tomorro and find out.

out of interest, are mafs easily installed? im a noob and wouldnt have a clue!

Changing the MAF is a 5-10 minute job. Unplug, loosen 2 clips, and it comes out.
